As I've suggested before, the Breakfast Club on Tybee (outside of Savannah) can't b beat for lunch or especially breakfast.

Also, the Wassaw Sound Seafood Company on Haversham in Savannah is truly stellar.  We had one of the best meals we've ever had in Savannah there.

Get off I 81 at Exit 222 In Staunton and get some great country food at Mrs. Rowe's Family Restaurant.  At Exit 220 you can drive in at Wright's Dairy Bar and get great burgers, subs and sandwiches.  Or pull in at Exit 222  and go S on Richmond Ave. then right on Greenville Ave. to Johnson then 2 blocks go right to Beverly and Staunton Grocery will be to your right.  Go to Staunton Grocery for good fine dining for lunch or dinner.

Spend the night at Inn at Old Virginia in a Barn Room.

                    I second Mrs Rowe's.

I really like breakfast there, they do biscuits and gravy right.

Not a fan of Mrs. Rowes or Wright's...quality has dropped off at both. I have been more impressed with some of the smaller eateries in downtown Staunton, including Zynodoa and The Depot.

If you feel like taking a slight detour off I - 81 into Roanoke you can stop for lunch at the Texas Tavern.
It's truly a great little place right downtown.

We are open to trying just about anything. I like fish and seafood, however my wife is not a fan. Hopefully any place where I could enjoy fish or seafood would have to have something on the menu for my wife.

We rarely eat breakfast at home, but really enjoy it while on vacation. This will be our first drive to Florida (from Ontario) without our son. Usually we hurry  down 81-77 and 95 to get to Orlando. This time we are taking our time and stopping in a couple of cities we have not visited before.

We plan on stopping in Charlotte for BBQ and are looking for different ideas for the places I quoted in my first post.

Thanks for all the help. I have several links I need to follow.

                            Cheers

B Matthews is casual and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on E. Bay St. near the river. Their menu has steak and seafood as well as something for everyone.  Firefly Cafe serves a casual lunch and dinner in a nice atmosphere with a menu for all.  The Old Pink House is open for dinner for a very romantic night.  Belford's is located in a beautiful old building in the historic district serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with steaks and seafood as well as others for everyone.  Crystal Beer Parlor is a lot of fun for lunch or dinner.

Route 11, is correct here. Mrs. Rowe's has not been the same for years now. Wright's, while having the charm of curb service, is mediocre at best. I would go to a fast food joint before Wright's.

Staunton Grocery on Beverly Street is outstanding if you desire a high end meal. Most items are locally sourced and prepared creatively.

BTW, in case you're unaware, it's pronounced Stanton - rhymes with ant -, not Stawnton.

                                  Enjoy your trip!

Alabama Jack's just north of Key Largo is a must stop. You can access Key Largo going this way (Card Island Sound) and it's much nicer than US 1. Great conch fritters, seafood, whatever. Nice location right on the water with funky, local atmosphere.

In Key Largo, we liked the Key Largo Conch House.  Just off the highway but tucked away in a grove, you'll likely drive by it a couple times til you find it.  Had good key lime pie, fish tacos and a few others things.  Nice folks.

When you get to Key Largo go to Mrs. Mac's for breakfast, lunch or dinner for good fresg sabdwiches, seafood and steaks.  Go to Sundowner's for dinner and watch the sunset on their outdoor deck.

Curiously American President Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton and spen part of his childhood in Savannah.

Of all the places I have lived, Staunton, VA was my favorite.  Consider spending more than just an overnight in one of several excellent Victorian-style bed & breakfasts or the Stonewall Jackson Hotel.

I am sorry to hear that Mrs. Rowe's and Wright's aren't what they once were.  Oh well, neither am I!

No offense, but I'm not surprised. I've been there twice...first time was horrible. Cafeteria style junk...went back with a friend and was doubly disappointed. On the other hand, I have heard others rave about the place. IMHO, a wait in line tourist trap feeding trough.

Just wanted to say thank you to all who suggested places for us to eat on our recent vacation. As always, not enough hours in the day to try all the great spots, but we made it to a few.

In Staunton, by the time we checked in to the hotel, we were tired and wanted something not too far away. We ended up at the Mill Street grill. We really enjoyed it. I had the beef ribs and my wife had the eggplant parm.

On the way through Charlotte, we stopped at the Penguin diner. Big line up so we ordered to go. Not a place we will visit again likely. Burger, ham sandwich and onion rings. Rings best part of the meal.

In Savannah, first night I got take out order of Crab Stew and Crawfish Etouffe. Both quite nice. We also ate at the Crystal Beer Parlor. I had a great burger and my wife really enjoyed her Greek Taco.

In Key Largo, we drove back to Alabama Jacks on a Thursday night about 6:30 pm and arrived to be told by th staff that they had just closed.(?) We ended up at Mrs. Macs. Conch fritters, fried fish of the day, conch soup were all great. $2 Yuengling and I was a happy camper. We returned the second night of our stay.

Had a Cuban sandwich at the Cuban Coffee Queen. Fantastic.
