Stella D'Oro Cookies

Are they still being made? I recently realized that I haven't seen them around in quite awhile. When I still lived at home, there was always a package of the Lady Stella Assortment around if my mom, and not I, had done the grocery shopping that week.

They are on strike and are operating with replacement workers (or scabs for you union folk). Don't know if this is the reason Stella D'oro is hard to find.

You should read up on the Stella D'Oro strike Worth going w/o their cookies till they make things right One would think when the company couldn't make their products anymore they'd get a clue and treat the workers better The company wants to reduce workers' hourly pay by $1 each year for five years, eliminate all 12 sick days and eight of the workers' 12 holidays, eliminate Saturday overtime, force workers to pay a new 20% contribution toward health care costs, and replace the pension with a 401(k) plan.

I don't know if it means anything, but the link Michael Hoffman posted, is no longer good. I used to love Stella D'oro's with my coffee.

http://stelladorostrike2008.com/ The plant, at 237th Street in the Bronx, NYC, abutts Interstate 87, the New York State Thruway.

It is not working for me either, though their server is up. ADDENDUM: At 2:30PM, the site was up again. The site was down other parts of today, however.

Still see them in Charlotte, unless they are aging on the shelf. Don't often have a taste for them, myself.

They were actually the "dessert" for this year's Boston Marathon pasta party. Pretty carb-o-licious, I must say.

Well, well, well,...I was cruising the aisles of the east-end Super Wal-mart today, and cursing to myself because I couldn't find anything. (It's huge, and it being made even bigger, and everything is in a different place); and what do I find but Stella d'Oro cookies. Not a huge selection, but the basic one ('S' shaped) and the toasts. And no, they're not aging. They are well within the freshness code!

The workers are still out on strike and there was a lot of union rallys held within the last month. The striking workers claim the current cookies are inferior because the replacement workers don't have the know-how.
