Been to Boone but not here. Go on to Valle Crucis and get a ham buscuit while you're so close!

Been there many times. Cookies yes. Sticky buns and cinnamon rolls yes. Regular yeast rolls for thanksgiving come from stickboys. I think I have had a few pies but the daily treats stick out to me. It's worth a visit.

Thanks Divefl and Rusty246 I went on the Internet and contacted Stick Boy. The owner e-mailed me back! We're getting into Blowing Rock at noon on Saturday (19th) and I had an idea they'd be sold out of most stuff by then. So, he's going to put our order away for us..Scones, slices of assorted cakes, muffins, etc. I offered to give him my credit card and he said it was not necessary. I'm really looking forward to trying the place! Thanks again. Would you and/or Rusty 246 or anyone else know some of these other places I've researched? Village Cafe Storie Street Grille Bistro Roca Thanks

I've been to storie street and bistro roca. Bistro Roca once with a large party. We all had the ribeye, I think and multiple appetizers and salads for the table. The steak was well cooked and seasoned. The apps were pretty simple calamari hand homemade chips but pretty good. I would not have a problem going again. It is kind of off the main strip in a back neighborhood. I would not have found it by mistake. I've been to storie street many times. They change up their menu a lot, which I like. I usually get some type of trout (they don't have the whole fish) and it is usually fileted well. I hate being at a nice restaurant and having to pick bones from my mouth. Happens all too often. Sorry, personal gripe. They are on main street if you want to walk around blowing rock and see the shops. They also do lunch. I've had fried olives there as a special appetizers and have wanted to have it again, since. Creative chef. Both places are relaxed. Or, I felt at home. Storie street has the larger menu if you are with someone who will need it. I've also mentioned Pssssghetti's in the past but I've gotten word that it has really dropped in quality the last year. Twig's is also a nicer restaurant that I've never really heard complaints about. I've been there but not for more that appetizers, which are good, and cocktails for a while.

http://www.ragged-gardens.com/ Ben, if you really want to do it up, I think this place has the best mountain feel to it. You can find the menu through the page. Food, I felt, was on par with the others you were looking at in and a few case better but not everything. I would get reservations and specify that you want to eat outside. Of course, I've only been on someone else's dime. The prices can be

Village Cafe Storie Street Grille Bistro Roca Thanks Baah Ben: When we were there(Valentine's Day, about 19 years ago)what I remember most was(in order)the beauty, the soreness from my first time snow skiing(I'm a water girl), the ham, and smoking up the brakes on my brothers van. Drving down mountains is a white knuckle experience for a bunch of Floridians! We did go to the "Speckled Trout" I'm pretty sure for lunch, food was good as well as the prices.

Divefl and Rusty - I really appreciate this information. This has not been an easy area (Banner Elk,Boone and Blowing Rock) to research. I got the sense that most places stick to the basics, which is ok. I'm use to that in our restaurant deprived area. Living in Florida in this area, we normally plan our vacations to visiting big cities where we can get to go to much better restaurants; in big cities there are unique and reasonable priced places in different neighborhoods. But, this is a trip to just get out of the heat for a while and so we're not expecting much in the way of great dining experiences. Rusty, we have been to Banner Elk before and I know exactly what you are talking about with those mountain roads! We had a Saab back then and the transmission fluid actually started to smell from the steep ride up that mountain! On the way down, I don't recall ever taking my foot off the brake peddle! I will check out ragged-gardens.com. Thanks again to both of you for your help. Greatly appreciated. I hope I can return the favor sometime.

One of the coolest little towns in the area is Burnsville,in the heart of Yancey County...It looks and feels like Maybury!! Great views and great local food. You hot dog lovers should try a foot long at Lil Smoky's on the main drag(what there is of a main drag) and a nice country dinner(or breakfast) at the gorgeous old Nu-ray Inn. We've been to the area many times...and Burnsville is a great place> Highly recommended by this Yankee!!!

We race in Bristol, TN at the NHRA track. I usually stay about 30 miles away in Boone. We rent a cabin at the 5000 foot altitude and eat in Boone. It is not the height of the culinary food chain but it is improving and in its own way, it is very good. We generally do breakfast there but after the race, we cook out and chill out at the high altitude great view cabin. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

More than a year later Stick Boys continues to do well. I admire folks who try to do things right and treat customers right. Bakerys have opened (and closed) in the nearby towns of Banner Elk and Foscoe and have been good but Stick Boys hopefully is here to stay. You tourists: try it out.

Yes! They have Christmas Stollen Bread! Become a part of the Stick Boy holiday tradition with Christmas Stollen. This beautiful sweet bread is filled with rum soaked fruit (cranberries, golden raisins, candied orange peel, raisins, and almonds). The dough is folded and baked to perfection. We then brush the warm bread with butter and sprinkle with powdered sugar. The beautiful loaf represents baby Jesus in a swaddled cloth in the freshly fallen snow. It's the perfect holiday gift. On sale now for $14.50/whole • $7.50/half. http://www.stickboybread.com/

I won't ask a stupid question like, "Is it healthy?" but maybe ask is it shippable? Does it go stale quickly? If it is shippable, does SB post them?
