Anyone know?

Johnny Boy's Ribs
Route 301 & St. Mary's Avenue
La Plata, Maryland
(301) 870-2526 or 1-800-371-RIBS

I have to go near there Thursday 04/01/04 and would like to stop.

Thanks,

Mike, just call the 800 number and you'll know for sure....

I have a cousin in La Plata and their friend owns a few bbq restaurants with outside smokers. Ate there the last time we visited and it was great, but I can't remember the name. I won't have time to email and get it before you are there.

800# is just too simple, besides people here just love to respond!

      Thanks though

        Mike Sh,
Think I saw it when I drove through there in August, 2001. What's happened since then is anybody's guess, though.
My friend Ted in Waldorf, MD. says that there is real pit barbecue in his neck of the woods, but you have to go into the sticks to find it. I will suppose he didn't mean this place. He told me about a place in S/E D.C. - Anacostia, I think.
Let us know what, if anything, you find.

I would definitely call before you stop. La Plata was leveled by a tornado in April 2002. A lot of places that were there may have been rebuilt in new locations.

They survived the tornado. The outside was open a couple months ago. I think they are not as good as they were some years back in the old place. BBQ seems dry and not very smoky to me. Good Q is hard to find in the Balt/Wash area. There are reputedly several other good places which cook with wood (as Johnny did) in Charles County, but I don't know where.

Well we did find it, it is still there and they are cooking with wood. Not out in the open but in a smoke house. I followed my nose to find the smoke house.

The Que was good but not great. We had minced pork sandwiches, boardwalk fries (kinda greasy), cole slaw and baked beans. Out of this the beans were the best. The meat was good, better then a lot I've had but still not upto Memphis quality.

                  Mike,

Did you happen to notice if the Twin Kiss, just across the road was open. They have very good homemade root beer. They were closed when I passed by a few weeks ago.

Signman, I don't know if it was the Twin Kiss or not but right after we left there PP saw a place advertising home made root beer. Sorry, i didn't notice. It was raining and gloomie.
