As a local, those are some of my top picks for non-roadfood eatieries. The East Coast Grill, Central Kitchen and the Neptune Oyster Bar should also be added the list.

I wasn't aware our restaurants were being given the 'cold shoulder'. Not by this group, certainly. Many great roadfood places in MA have been mentioned over the years; I certainly don't feel slighted. Of course, this may be true of trendier, more expensive resaturants, but that doesn't affect me.

I agree wholeheartedly! As an relocated New Englander i found that to be exactly the case---MANY of the places ive read abiuyt here are either places that i have FOND memories of or places that my family concurred with---and when it comes to eats--i BELIEVE my family! Alot of them have worked in many of the trendy places but we tend to EAT at neighborhood places. My brothers personally know all the owners of every decent breakfast place for miles and there is certainly no shortage of customer for BEST foods in New England! Just ask the Clambox!

UpStairs on the Square is easily my favorite non-Roadfood restaurant in all of Boston/Cambridge, and I'm glad to see it on the list. To that list, I'd add Elephant Walk, a French/Cambodian place on Beacon Street.

For the record, though, I think Sheryl Julian is kind of a dip.

If you get a chance, add Grotto (on Beacon Hill, Boston) and TreMonte in Woburn,MA to your list of "must go" places.
I have met the owners of Grotto, and the good reviews keep stacking up.
Heather and I have been to TreMonte 3 times-great food, but not a Roadfood place, still worth the attention.
Every penny of the 10 million dollars Smith and Wollensky spent on the renovation of the Castle in Park Sq. was worth it-not only a great meal, but fabulous decor.

Really? Every review I've seen and everyone I know who has gone to this particular S&W has ripped the place apart! I don't think I've heard anyone say anything at all complimentary about the food. They're apparently having serious growing pains.
