A few ppl have mentioned eggplant on a pizza. There was a shop on 25 outside Newtown, CT that put fried eggplant on pizza. It was GREAT with fresh tomatoes and fresh garlic. Best pizza I ever ate.

My Baba would make the usual square pizza, but put thinly sliced kielbasa on it. You know what? It's really better than pepperoni or crumbled sausage. It's the best of both worlds.

I had a pizza in Italy with a soft poached egg sitting(or dripping) in the middle....sent it back to get a little more cooked....also had a popular dish there, potato pizza which I've talked about before here at roadfood...it's delicious..and I've since seen it in some pizzarias here.Basically a white pie, just dough with shoestring or thin sliced potatoes, olive oil, salt & pepper and a little rosemary!! Different but great!!!

People think I'm strange for not getting cheese on pizza... I typically get chicken, peppers and onions. or bacon and onions (sometimes with pineapple) or chickensteak pizza is one of my favorites (chickensteak, fried onions, sweet peppers, diced tomatoes). Cheese just ruins it for me, makes it too greasy/soggy. Like it a little crisper.

None of those topping very strange. Strange perhaps is my favorite toppings for chicken tacos (other than lettuce/tomatoes) is shredded carrots and diced dill pickles.

I've mentioned this before too but I'll say it again: Sally's (yes, the Sally's) offers this pie, at least some nights, which is one reason I like it better than Pepe's for a non-clam pie outing. If you're ever there and they're making 'em, order one for the table.

Mr. Pizza Xidan Beijing China offers a golden shrimp seafood pizza. Octopus squid imitation crab and ofcourse shirmp. It is served on sweet potato dough what a blast bite the crust and be greated with molten sweet potato oozing out. Hated every pizza i've dared even to try in China till this one. It is definately on my top 10 list.#1 to #8 being all the New Haven pizza places (Sally's Pepe's Modern etc.) #9 Pappa Murphy take and bake Bellingham WA. #10 Mr. Pizza Xidan Beijing China only drawbacks the price 137 yuan for medium and China always adding corn to pizza.

They're thin slices cut perpendicular to the long axis of the potato, that is, little medallions.

There used to be a pizza place in Danvers, MA (I can't remember the name) that had strawberries permanently listed on their menu as a topping. I never had the guts to try (and pay for) it.

I live 3x years in Japan. You could find squid, seaweed(nori flakes), corn (kernals or baby), consistantly at any pizza place. Some of the odder places would have canned teriyaki eel, quail eggs, octopus tenticle slices, sweetened egg, tofu, and natto(fermented soybeans).

I kid you not.

And having traveled around the rest of SE Asia, I can attest every country puts it's own personal cultural flavor spin on pizza. Blazing hot raw chili peppers are not uncommon.

One morning I had a brilliant idea. I had to choose between leftover pizza and leftover General Tso's chicken. I put the chicken on top of the pizza and heated it in the oven. It was gooooooooood

Now that sounds good...This thread confirms my point that pizza is close to the perfect food...almost anything goes...and it's a food that transends cultures, and the sky is the limit....want something different...use your imagination!!
