The new site-- a small, non-grill sandwich shop is really the only thing that could reasonably fit in there. The problem is, with the auto traffic flow in the area, any business there is pretty much limited to foot traffic. Suburpai may be hoping that the massive increase in the surrounding medical office space will lead to an increase in hopefully hungry mouths heading their way.

    And the bar crowd.

Drove by Prospect & North. It is now open after 7-8 months of waiting!

Thanks. It opened Thursday December 20th 2007. A fine Christmas present indeed. I stopped in Saturday night and had a fantastic dinner. There are no seats or tables at this small location. Standing room only.

I know more about Suburpia than I want to. This is the third incarnation of the business, always run by the same man who is a criminal. The delays are due to his involvement. He may have thought up a good sandwich...for the 70's when no one cared what went into their bodies...but he's a crazy man that doesn't pay his vendors and relies on his own lunacy for direction. He treats his employees like crap, by the way. While I am all for independent, locally owned businesses...there is something to be said for integrity and this business has none.

The food prep area is intentionally hidden from sight. I am certain there are a number of reasons why! Some things repeatedly fail for good reason. Try and ask for nutritional information, by the way. I did and got laughed at.

I was on my way to Mayfair Apple Store and was trying to decide where I was going to stop...I remembered Subupia was right on the way. I don't get this far east very often any more, my husband moved me out past Oconomowoc (closer to Johnson Creek). I recall the Suburpia on 27th & Oklahoma and at Summerfest, back in the day.
I just devoured a Miles Standish, I don't remember enjoying a sub so much. Soooooo Good! I got off work early a day later and had to get another, the next day I did it again when I was told there was one in Waukesha. Thank goodness the gas was killing me. I've had to get one - about 6 times in the course of a week and a half. Waukesha is getting pretty far for me too...I don't know if I can feed my new addiction with gas going up so much. Are there any plans for an Oconomowoc (Growing fast) or Johnson Creek (no subs in creek) location.
If anyone knows what the sauce is, I'd appreciate it so I can make do in the mean time.

Now things may have changed, but Nino's Bakery (Menomonee Falls) used to make their bread. I always added a small splash of Maggi's Seasoning (substitute equal parts soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce if you don't have any) to the onions along with oregeano.

sdzn - I love your story. It is the same for my family, too. Suburpia has the only subs we eat anymore.

I enjoyed the Suburpia subs during my college days, and for years afterward, whenever I was in the Milwaukee area. I was very sad to see that they went out of business many years ago, and overjoyed upon their return. One of the things that sets these subs apart is the incredible seasoning infused in the oil....each type of sandwich has a different mix of seasonings. This is something that no other sub chain has, or probably ever will. When you are devouring one of their subs, take note on how perfectly the seasoning matches the meat. I now live in Illinois and will soon make a road trip to once again savor that incredible flavor.
