Subway's Philly Cheesesteak

I have seen a lot of TV ads for this sandwich featuring a "mountain of grilled steak". Now I haven't been in a Subway shop for several years, but I sure don't remember any of them having a grill.

I'm guessing they are referring to a "mountain" of microwaved steak and cheese.

Someone call the food police. They put a salad underneath a cheesesteak.

Lee: It might taste better than the Arby's 99 cent bbq sandwich I see advertised. But I'm not gonna volunteer to be the taste tester.

I will admit it...............I tried one earlier this summer. The grandchildren love to go to Subway for lunch and choosing all their toppings, and the staff is so patient with them. I saw the cheesesteak advertised on the wall so ordered a small one with nothing on it but the meat and cheese. Now get this......they asked me if I wanted it warm! I said that I did and they stuck it in a microwave (I think) for a few seconds, wrapped it and handed it to me. I took the first bite and decided that it could not be as bad as I was thinking so took the second bite to verify. This had to be one of the most dreadful things that I have ever tried to eat. I trashed the rest and sat there listening to my grandchildren telling me that I had ordered the wrong thing.

I haven't gotten anything like this from subway in over 10 years. But the last time I did get some sort of cheesesteak, it tasted like old beef warmed up in the microwave. I hate that warmed over taste with any meat even if it was once good. I can't imagine this is any different.

My wife loved tose things when they made them w/ the sliced beef. Then they changed over to hunks of meat that were mostly inedible. britt

Almost never go to the sub shops, but there's a Firehouse near me, I heard they were pretty good, so I gave them a try. Ordered a pastrami with cheese, and noticed that they place the meat and cheese into one of the many countertop steamers they have, then put it in the toasted roll...or bun.. Waited forever for it and then they forgot all the condiments except for the mustard. It was O.K. I guess.

Maybe they put the meat under a hot light and asked it a bunch of questions.... Grilled.

The TV ad does not show the lettuce, onion and pickles. It only shows the cheese and peppers.

This topic got me curious. I tried the Subway cheesesteak. It was not very good and too expensive, and looked nothing like the picture above or the TV commercial I mentioned. For fast food, Culver's offers a better one at a cheaper price but I pass on that one too.

The new thing is that they have a small quick-heat oven to toast the sandwiches and/or melt the cheese on them.

If they had an actual grill, they would have to install an exhaust hood, complete with an expen$ive fire suppression system. Not practical for one or 2 sandwiches.
