Sugestions for Metairie La. Fri, 12/3/10 11:49 AM (permalink)

We will be in Metairie La, the day before we leave for San Diego on Amtrak
Looking for good roadfood places in Metairie area
We have been to the Quarter numerous times and on this trip prefer to stay in the Metairie-Kenner area

Bozo's for oysters and fried seafood.

Morning Call Cafe - where the locals go when the line at Cafe du Monde is too long.

Unfortunately, the only place I've ever been in the Metairie area was a Joe's Crab Shack....

I had my best meal ever in Metairie!

It was in the bar at the then Howard Johnson's.  They have probably changed hands by now.

They were cooking huge pots of crawfish, potatoes and cobbettes of corn in the parking lot.

It was all you can eat for about $8 and I did.  I'd never had them before.  They were so spicy that my lips were burning. They didn't lose any money on me because they made up for it with the amount of beer that I ordered.

Seems to me the hotel was right on the Causeway Exit.  Big Building.

If crawfish are in season, don't miss them!

            Morning Call is also great!

The Deli at Martin's Wine Cellar is outstanding.  Short Stop's po boys are also outstanding.  Crazy Johnnie's has good streaks and Deanie's Seafood is outstanding.

              Martin's Wine Cellar @ 714 Elmeer Ave., Metairie, LA 504 - 896 - 7300.

Metairie has some great restaurants besides the ones mentioned already, here's a few more:

                Andrea's - 3100 19th Street www.andreasrestaurant.com

Zea's - several locations in Metairie.  It's a chain in the sense that there are several locations, but is owned by locals.

                Acme  Oyster House - 3000 Veteran's Blvd.

                Impastato's - 3400 16th Street

You can get a complete list of restaurant reviews by neighborhood (Metairie) on www.nomenu.com

Charlie's Seafood - 8311 Jefferson Hwy.  Haven't been here myself, but hear wonderful things about it and hope you get a chance to go.  It's a casual seafood restaurant owned by Frank Brigtsen and his wife who also own Brigtsen's Restaurant uptown.

I also love the Charbroiled oysters at Drago's! They are amazing.
Hope to get to Bozo's someday.

                      My picks-

Harbor Seafood and Oyster Bar. 3203 Williams Blvd Kenner, LA 70065
504-443-6454  I can recommend Raw oysters, Gumbo, Fried seafood, Blackened seafood, Po Boy's. Maybe the best boiled mushrooms I have ever had as a side.

                      Deanie's Seafood 1713 Lake Ave Metairie, LA, (504) 834-1225
Huge fried seafood plates with boiled potatoes as a free appetizer. I don't usually care for boiled potatoes. But these are good!

Hillbilly Bar BQ 208 Tullulah Harahan, LA 504-738-1508
I enjoyed the pulled pork with grilled bread and ribs

Russell's Short stop Po'Boys 119 Transcontinental Dr. Metairie, LA
504-885-4572 A must stop for me on the way to the airport.

I'm not the one going to New Orleans this time around (see Original Post), but I've been and plan to go back, and that link will prove to be most helpful.

                        Thanks again,
