Sunrise Peak - Scottsdale, AZ - HIKE PICS Wed, 07/4/07 6:47 PM (permalink)

Out of bed this morning at 5AM, gotta beat that record-breaking heat we are supposed to have today. I went over to hike the Sunrise peak in the McDowell Mountains, just a quick 5 minute drive from my house.

This time of year, if you want to hike locally, ya gotta do it early.

Once on top, you can see forever in all directions, this looking down into Fountain Hills.

And here you see Camelback mountain and Downtown Phoenix behind it.

The hike back down is equally rewarding, because you have the views that were at your back all the way up.

I call this rock formation Grizzly Bear Rock.

Look what I found in my garage shortly after I got back this morning. Scared the bejesus out of me! After the intial shock, I coaxed her onto a dustpan and redeposited her into the desert.

This is a great hike for those of you in the Phoenix area. It is about 2 miles up to the top, which for this obese person only took 45 minutes. So call it 4 round trip. I started at 5:30 and was done easily before 7 AM. Had plenty of time to go swimming!

Great pictures, I have spent some time on business in that area, very beautiful. However if you can't stand the heat stay out of the desert. Its 79 here today and I am sweating, 68 is hot enough for me. No air conditioning here. : (

Glad she didn't frighten you so much you dropped your camera - we sure would miss all your lovely pictures! Thanks for sharing.
When I visited my Nana in Apache Junction, early morning was always my favorite time of day.

Pretty hot here in Wickenburg too!! I'm glad that I work indoors. My electric bill last month was $162.00 and I keep my A/C on 80. I finally got on equal pay so now I pay $79.00 every month no matter how much I use!! During the winter months my bill is about $40.00 so it is an average for the whole year.
Great pics on this post and the "backyard" forum!!!
