Sweatman's Founder Passes Away ("Bub" Sweatman)

HOLLY HILL — Mr. Harold Odell “Bub” Sweatman, 81, of 1313 Gemini Drive, Holly Hill, owner of Sweatman’s Bar-B-Que, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his home.

The funeral will be 2 PM Saturday in the chapel of Avinger Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Owens and Rev. Tim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sweatman was born in Holly Hill, a son of the late Talmadge O. Sweatman and Effie Robinson Sweatman. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired farmer.

Mr. Sweatman was a member of Fishermans Unlimited and the Oak Tree Club. In 1977 with his family he founded Sweatman’s Bar-B. Que. Mr. Sweatman was preceded in death by sons, Harold Wayne “Butch” Sweatman and James Allen “Al” Sweatman; and a grandson, Travis Pickney Sweatman. He was the widower of Margie Faulling Sweatman.

Surviving are daughters, Judy Scott and Patricia Wolpert, both of Holly Hill, and Susan French of Elloree; sisters, Gladys Layton of Charleston and Jewel Amspacher of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Carolyn Storie, Jamie Sweatman, Amanda Wolpert, Paul Wolpert, Amy Bunch, Harold “Bubba” McCleod, and Stacy Weathers; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM this Friday, and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1815 Old Trolley Road, Suite 109, Summerville, SC 29485, or to a charity of one’s choice.
