I can only hope whoever views my tape sees some talent there along with a sincere desire to help people. Wait a minute, decadent. This is roadfood!! Get the marriage annulled.....there's a solution...marriage never happened...no ex-spouse to deal with.

I watch the Food Network a lot. A Roadfood series would blow the other shows away. I hope this idea becomes a reality.

I said it in 2003 and I'll say it again after reading all the posts in between- we need to do the RoadFood Show! My husband is now better connected, and is involved in multiple TV shows including finishing up a food demo show for a friend and a show that is now on TV(Pinks, Speed Channel). However, we don't have the money to shoot the first show. I will talk to him about it anyway. You only have to look at the Food channel to see that it is all about entertainment more so than the food. If I see one more episode of Emeril, I am going to hurl . Not that he doesn't have good recipes, there is just too much of him too often!! My husband pitched a really cool food show (bios of famous foodies, along with recipes) and the Food Channel could have cared less. Let's work on this!!

Hello all. I turned 50 in April and suddenly discovered the Food Channel and other food shows. (My wife blocked all the x-rated channels on our satellite.) What I discovered is I am not interested in the "Star" cooks, but prefer cook-offs where seemingly "everyday good old boys and gals" are shown, shows where regional food and establishments are the focus, or programs that give a cultural history of a food and its evolutions. I want shows that make me hunger as I watch it or shows that educate me so that I can offer tidbits to others in conversations and use it when I cook. Food shows are like mini-vacations for me, entertainment with a true use. Take care....though I really like Iron Chef which is nothing but fun.

Well, one need only look at the results of the recent Next Food Network Star "reality" show in which 90% of the finalists were food professionals of some kind. The network isn't interested in actual cooking shows or anything like that. It's personality driven with a little cooking info every now and then. As for Emeril, I stand behind the belief that ANYTHING would draw rave reactions from people if you made it with a stick of butter and a cup of cream.

Boy, do I agree! In meetings with the Food Channel this is exactly what they said. It ain't about the food. Hey, is anyone watching Hell's Kitchen? I have to say, I enjoyed it but it was nothing about the food! But,if you want to get a show on TV, it has to be entertaining. It's too bad- I also enjoy learning, not just being entertained. quote:Originally posted by hungovergourmet Well, one need only look at the results of the recent Next Food Network Star "reality" show in which 90% of the finalists were food professionals of some kind. I caught HELL'S KITCHEN towards the end of the run, probably watching the last four or five shows leading up to last night. I only saw the last fifteen minutes of the finale last night but judging from what I'd already seen I was pleased by the outcome. I didn't like Ralph... But again, here's a show that's completely personality driven. You barely learn anything about the dishes they're preparing or any useful cooking knowledge. I actually think that a Roadfood-type TV show might appeal more to a Travel Channel or somebody like that than Food Network.

I agree- I think it fits the travel channel the best. Who knows, though- I just caught a travel show on the Fine Living channel, and the travel show was basic, not "fine" or fancy! Seems like anything goes, these days. To the point about making anything taste good with butter and cream- I sauteed shallots and garlic in butter, tossed in freshly shucked corn, added cream and simmered briefly. My guests went nuts! I rarely cook this way, but boy, was it great! And yes, easy to wow them with not much............

With the amount of airtime that has to be filled I think only certain channels can be all that selective. Between cable and the growing world of satellite radio there has to be some sort of outlet...

I would thoroughly enjoy seeing a Roadfood TV program! How wonderful that would be. Perhaps a good place for a show of this type would be on public TV. I watch many cooking, food and travel programs on both CPTV and NY Channel 13. Who wouldn't love to tag along with Michael & Jane to all the restaurants they go to....even if only via television! Don't forget to watch Ambulance Girl (the story, written by Jane Stern about her experiences as an EMT here in CT) on (I think) Lifetime TV on September 12.
