Taco Bell's new TV ad is a lie Sun, 05/3/09 4:33 PM (permalink)
I got a kick out of the deception posed by the new Taco Hell-Taco Smell TV ad about their salads in a flour tortilla bowl, they state a salad must have lettuce to be a salad. Oh yeah? obviously the producers of the commercial have never heard of tuna, chicken, egg, ham, cucumbers, crab or fruit salads just to name a few examples of lettuce-less salads.

And do you believe there's really a Mr. Clean who goes to people's homes to smile at them as they use Mr. Clean products?

People who eat at Taco Bell think that it was started by Tinker Bell's Mexican cousin.

They're also, apparently, alleging that such is food.

Sure, there's really a Mr. Clean.  That's why my neighbor got divorced.  He found his wife in the shower with....ok, it's an old joke.  But Mr. Clean is old too.  But now he has Viagra.  He is now a Rise and Shine.

Did you know that Mr. Clean was modeled on President Dwight D. Eisenhower?

You completely misunderstood my premise, one thing is to use a spokeperson-fictional or not to sell or endorse a product and it's another thing to state a lie, like that a salad must have lettuce to be a salad

Actually, the sky is not blue, it is black. It only appears to be blue because of the sunlight. This is similar to water which is not ocean blue or sea green, it is colorless

While technically you are correct, I don't think this is lawsuit-worthy.  Maybe in the opinion of the person who wrote that ad it DOES have to have lettuce to be a salad.  I wouldn't get too upset about it.  The increase in your blood pressure isn't worth it.

I think the commercial was just goofy, they were basically commenting on how unhealthy the "salad" was, hey look, there is one shred of lettuce.  Did this commercial really get you that riled up?
Were you expecting more from taco bell's marketing department?

Actually, you should feel very good about your life, because if this is the only issue that bothers, perplexes, angers, worries, or disturbs you, you are indeed a lucky man.    Or, to put it another way, I hope that this is the biggest problem that you ever experience.

I hate to quote wikipedia, but, to save time, look at this, and learn a little:
                               http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_of_water

for a more scientific explanation of the color of water: http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/water/vibrat.html#blue

                              so, water IS blue.

I believe that the courts give companies quite a bit of latitude when it comes to advertising.  I believe that exaggeration, hyperbole, stretching the truth, and the like is considered "puffery" and not to be taken literally.

It depends on your definition of "sky", I guess, in the sense that you never see an actual object; all you ever see is the light reflected from it. In that sense, no object ever has any color at all. Only photons of varying wavelengths have color.

Technical enough for you? Can we now agree that the sky is blue because the photons reflected are blue? Or will we now make a distinction for night and day? If so, I'm going to tell you that those are salads because Taco Bell calls them salads. And if Taco Bell says that a salad has to have lettuce, then that's the way it is.
