Tastykake in New York?

Does anyone know where I can find it? I know I've seen it around, but I'm not sure where it is sold. I'm searching all of my local grocery stores online (Walbaums, PathMark, Stop and Shop, and can't seem to find them on the product list anywhere.

Western Beef Supermarkets often have a selection. ShopRite supermarkets on LI and in Westchester usually have a few varieties. Pathmark often would have them on special for a week, then disappear again. Now that A&P owns Pathmark I don't know if they will continue that.

ShopRite & A&P both carry a big selection of the line.

It is usually near the Entenmann's end cap display, or right next to the Hostess display, across from the dairy cases. Can you tell I have 2 teenage sons who LOVE snacks?

Stopped by Key Food, CVS, and Path Mark, found Little Debbie, Drakes, Hostess, and Entenmenn's, but no Tastykake. However this was in Nassau county, maybe I'll have better luck in Queens.

Hostess/Drakes/Entenmenn's have really taken over.

Tastykake never did direct store delivery to NYC/LI. I think Pathmark and Shoprite bring them in from their NJ grocery warehouses. I still have last week's circular from the Shoprite in Yonkers, and they had some on deal listed in the circular (none this week, though.) In fact, I saw them in Yonkers; as CC said, they were on one of those end caps where you find the Little Debbie, Hostess, etc. Try calling the Shoprite in Plainview on Woodbury Rd (516-938-0240) and see if they regularly stock it. When Pathmark get them in, they are usually on the floor in a cardboard box display.

You can call the customer service hotline, to get a better idea of how to find the goodies, in your local area.

1-800-24-TASTY, weekdays, 9am to 4pm, EST.

I know that the CVS on Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan (between Broadway and the South Street Seaport) has them and the Duane Reades on Broadway at 50th and at 52nd Streets have them as well.

Don't know where they are in NY, but just saw some yesterday at the Schertz Walmart. They never carried them before.
We get here Hostess, Little Debbie's, Mrs. Freshley's and H.E.B. Grocerystores now carry their own line of snack cakes, perhasp made for them by Little Debbie or somebody else.

I'll buy a box of Tastykake and take it to work next time.

Yesterday, a limited selection of Tastykake products showed up again (last time was about 3-5 years ago)
on the shelves at our local Wal-Mart here in NW Florida, so I got a box of Butterscotch Krimpets
now whether they become a permanent fixture is still up in the air; if not, the Save-A-Lot down the
street is usually reliable in getting Tastykakes a few times during the year.

Plus, there was a discount coupon on the box for Six Flags, unfortunately, just at the locations in New Jersey & Baltimore.

I find the two previous posts very interesting. Tastykake has been doing the same thing with supermarkets east of the Hudson River. They ship in some baked goods in a cardboard display container. When they are gone, they are gone. I don't know if they are doing this to judge the market for their product in a given area, or to make a few extra sales. But the product is what is sold radiating out from Philadelphia. Hence, the promotional materials for their local area.

The funny thing is that you can take the PATH subway from Manhattan to New Jersey, walk into a supermarket or grocery, and get all the Tastykake you want.

David, down in Panama City (50 miles S. of where I am), the now-closed Albertson's had Tastykake products
on their shelves all the time. As for Save-A-Lot, the selections have ranged from holiday cakes to
strawberry krimpets, breakfast & low-fat bars & if I remember right, they had poundcake for a week or two.

QNS_LI_NY_Snacker- There is a Herr's/Tastykake outlet in Farmingdale on LI. Here's the address 101 E Carmans Rd (631) 249-1114. Just use mapquest or call them to get directions, because its kinda hard to find. It mostly carries Herr's potato chips but they do have a selection of Tastykakes.

Yesterday, I found Tastykake for sale in a Target store in College Point, Queens. Billyboy really found a great source: Duane Reade. I have found that all the six stores I checked in Midtown Manhattan have a moderate selection of Tastykake items.

I find tastycakes everywhere here in Northern New Jersey. I live in Orange County, NY,and have also seen them in Shoprite, Target, and Walmart in NY. In New Jersy at this time of year, we are always scoping out the individual Tastycake fruit pies, Pumpkin Pie flavor. DH and DS LOVE them, so when I hit Quick Chek, or 7-11 I am always scoping out the tastycake section.

For Tastykake, the Hudson River is like the Great Wall of China.

I could "live" with or without Tastykake.

If Entennman's did not make it to this side of the wall, I would be heartbroken.

The latest batch of Tastykake products to hit our shelves mainly consisted of low-fat/sugar free items
such as breakfast bars & muffins. Forgot to check & see if they still had shelf space at Wal-Mart.

That distributor in Farmingdale no longer handles Tastykake products. The outlet store was closed last year, but a sign indicates they still will sell Herr's products in full case lots to consumers.

The number of retail establishments in New York City selling a subset of the Tastykake full line continues to grow. They seem to be products with a 3 week shelf life. I saw them today for the first time in Fine Fare Supermaret in the East Village.

Aw Tastykakes!!! Use to eat those when I lived in Maryland. California doesn't have Tastykake or Utz. I'm deprived out here. I've been tempted to go to Tastykake website and get some shipped to me.

Work the line and used to get the creme filled Coffee Cake as a snack, but then those ran out, and it's mostly the boxed stuff, and maybe a few of the single Juniors. Other times would get one; usually a creme filled cupcake from the CVS on Fulton, which has more of the single stuff.

Tastykake, on this side of the Hudson was mostly distributed by Operative Cake company (which carried all the miscellaneous stuff not distributed here by the first party, such as Flowers, PET and Dolly Madison), and could be found on the Lady Linda shelves in small stores, but recently, you don't see them there as much. So some stores willl just have their own. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Hudson, Tastykake picks up, while Drakes starts becoming more scarce compared to this side of the Hudson.

I saw a bunch of Tastykakes in Key West once, on the same rack as the Drakes, at a gas station.

Dearfolk,
I bought a pack of Tastycake Peanut Butter something-or-anothers at my local Kroger last night... they came 12 to a box, 6 packs. I tried manfully to limit myself to just one pack, but frankly they were far better than even I had expected, and I absolutely had to have a second pack. I had sweet milk to counteract any adverse sugar rewaction that I might have, but there was none.
Today, when I arrived at my favorite eatery, Allen's Hamburgers, I distributed the remaining 4 packs (8 cakes) out to the staff. Hoo boy! Marisa remarked that "These are those Philadelphia cakes I've heard about." Nobody else had ever heard of the brand, but everyone was IMPRESSED!
Thanks immeasurably for this thread. That's my report on Tastycake for this go-round. When I find another type of them (especially if they're on sale!), I'll report again.
Y'all in Philadelphia have reason to be spoiled rotten! Little Debbies are nothing by comparison.

Ort. Carlton, those may have been the Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. I just had two of them about an hour ago. Love 'em!!

Eric B., if you're down by Whitehall regularly, there is a deli on Water Street called Water Street Gourmet (next to the McDonald's) and they usually have quite a few individual Tastykakes. Don't know what the turnover is or how fresh they are, but it might be worth a try.

I used to stop in that McDonalds to get my tea sometimes. (I I didn't have time to get it at the McDonalds in Astoria. So I'd exit the south end of the station, swing over there, and then continue to the other entrance). I would be running, and never even paid attantion to what was next to the McDonalds.
But thanks!
