Ted Drewes' Frozen Custard

To me, there is nothing that says summer in St. Louis like a concrete at the Route 66 landmark Ted Drewes' Frozen custard. As far as ice cream/frozen custard/yogurt places go, noone can ever match up to Ted's in my book. The original RoadFood frozen desert place...

Several years ago, I drove Rt. 66 twice, and stopped there both times. You are correct, it's a great place. Only wished I didn't live a thousand miles away.

It's not Ted Drewe's, but I can now get a concrete two blocks from my apartment in Manhattan, at the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. It's a pretty damn good facimile of St. Louis custard.

On my last trip to St. Louis, I ate at Ted's three times in two days. It's that good. The sundaes and oatmeal cookie ice cream sandwich are also superb. Ted's on Chippewa is close to the Hill, which is Roadfood heaven.

Amen. Concrete at Ted's. Several times each trip to St. Louis. For those of you who miss it, or live 1,000 miles away...he ships.

I'm skeptical that frozen custard, whether shipped from Ted's, Kopp's or wherever, can maintain it's texture. Am I wrong about this? I'd appreciate comments from anyone who has had frozen custard shipped before. Thanks.

Although I've not had the frozen custard from Ted Drewe's shipped, I have had it packed as if to ship and then taken it with me on a two day car trip. It was in perfect condition after the 1100 mile, (32 hr.)over night trip. They normally do not recommend anything but overnight shipping, but were agreeable to increse the amount of dry ice for my longer trip and it worked out really well. As far as the custard is concerned, NOTHING COMPARES!!!

They (Ted Drewes) has a "Cardinal" Sundae on the list. Custard with Hot Fudge sauce then topped with a scoop of sour pie cherries in syrup. It is the absolute best sundae that this ice cream lover has EVER enjoyed ! Here it is with a Praline Sundae for a companion ! CHERRY IS THR WINNER HERE !!!
