Tell the truth!! Sat, 12/25/10 8:55 PM (permalink)
If your giver can't read this, please answer, did you get a gift today that you wanted to say, "What the heck, are you thinking ?" If so, what was it? Mine was an electric can opener, from my wife, we have one that's about 2 years old, Black and Decker, just like the new one, she doesn't like the old one because it cuts the entire top of the can off. I do all the cooking, go figure. "OH!!! A NEW CAN OPENER"!!! Thanks babe!

The year after I gave my wife an outboard engine she gave me a brassiere.

I didn't think that was fair because she loved to fish, and often took the boat out by herself.

      Was it the right size?

As a matter of fact, I received these from the same person:

Guess I can use those oversized saki cups but what's with the plastic fruit?

They're meant to be frozen and then placed into one's drink.

        As if.

            I find them questionable.

Hey, it's the thought that counts right? You really don't need any of that stuff anyways and it shows that she's thinking of you. Did the gift that you gave showed that you are attentive and pay attention to her needs and responded with a needed or wanted gift accordingly?

My mother bought me several shirts all three sizes too big, as well as a Bounce dryer bar in regular scent, which I am allergic to.  I wish I could say the shirt thing is uncommon, but it's not.  She's bought me shirts three sizes too big consistently for the last four years.

You do know that I'm having fun here.  I gave him a stuffed animal.  He's 62.

I lucked out this year-nothing I didnt need or want.My 2 favorites-a pair of Ove Gloves, and some really pretty pearl earrings shaped like snowmen, complete with a stove pipe hat...
Last year was another story-ANOTHER knife set, a vase shaped like a victorian house and a cupcake pan of sorts.( I rarely bake-rarely)I know its the thought that counts, and I was appropriately thankful.

A close friend gave us an IOU for a play and a steak dinner. Not sure whether I will ever see either and not because I wouldn't attend. It was saddening in a way but I guess I have to look at it as "It's the thought that counts"

                                    A GIFT STORY---but not Christmas-
When my oldest son was 12 he was about 6-2 and 130#---very bony and skinny.  For  his birthday (August 2) I gave him earmuffs (not a present for the middle of summer, of course).  He looked at them, then at me and said----what's this for?

" Thats because you have your head in the refrigerator all day and I don't want you catching pneumonia."

When he played linebacker 6-3/250.   He was just a growing boy at 12.

Very nice. It's on Paradise Island. Back in the dark ages, when I would occasionally spend a little time fishing in the Bahamas, Paradise Island didn't exist -- as Paradise Island. It was Hog Island, and a source of food, for many, many years because of the feral pigs that roamed there.

My in-laws actually gave me a Red Ryder for Christmas about 20 years ago.  I don't think I've ever taken it out of the package.

Kind of a strange situation, several people in our circle were given this same gift. If it actually happens I'm OK with it. Really more to it then I care to get into on a message board.

I remember reading years ago about 2 wealyhy Texans, brothers, who would spend small fortunes every year, trading an old pair of moleskin pants back and forth. One year, one of them had a tractor trailer compacted as small as possible, with the pants inside, the the lump of steel delivered to the brothers front yard. The creativity was very funny and expensive as they kept trying to one up each other.

One year, when the youngest was 14, her mother and I gave her a whole box of coal, next to her stocking. She's 50, and she's still pissed. But boy oh boy, did she ever deserve it. Heck, she deserved a mine full.

                                                    Michael,
Isn't it funny how kids hold a grudge ?
They can't remember one good thing you ever did for, or with, them--but one little bit of coal they remember for eternity.
                                                    Bah humbug.

Ancient one, that same kid is still angry with a long-dead great aunt because when she was five the aunt sent her a birthday card that had one of those paper wheels in it with numerals for ages, and it apparently got turned so that the number 4 was showing instead of 5.

I got a snuggie - they are about 12 inches to long length wise and the same sleeve length, and you have to put them on backward!. But, my grandaughter gave it to me and I would'nt take anything for it.

My sister-in-law and brother gave me a lovely hanging bird feeder, but I have a postage stamp-sized back yard with no tree to hang it from.  Are there any roadfood birders out there to tell me how high the bird feeder has to hang to attract birds? (I have this idea they won't come in if the feeder is too low to the ground) and, do nurseries or garden centers (Lowe's, Home Depot) sell just posts to hang a feeder from?
