Tell us about how you like your non Fast Food burgers

 Me, I want a 1/2 lb. hand pattied 80/20 burger, medium rare on a toasted bun, salt, pepper and granulated garlic if possible. No salad or condiments at all, it should come with hand cut twice fried fries, cost in the $7.49-$8.49 range, for the two.

    Medium rare with grilled onions, mayonnaise and dark mustard on a toasted bun. I'll add my own black pepper if it's needed. But, I want my 85-15 meat mixed with some salt, pepper, garlic granules, dry Coleman's mustard and some bread crumbs (to soak up and retain the juices as the meat cooks).
     
    Edit: If I grind my own meat -- rare, not medium rare.

    Half pound, hand pattied but not overly thick, char grilled just under medium, grilled onion or sesame bun, ketchup, yellow mustard, grilled onion slice, fresh avocado slices or, better yet, guacamole.

    Served with onion rings, sauteed mushrooms and a side of either frijoles de la olla or chili and beans.

    1/3 lb--85-15 beef-medium rare-onions,raw.catsup,toasted bun and a slice of cheese please--swiss--with a big old roast peppers and tabasco!

    Not always. Sometimes relish, sometimes mustard and relish, sometimes just mayonnaise, sometimes mustard, relish and mayonnaise.

    I like an 80/20 burger, well done ( I won't eat anything less than well done when eating out) with bacon, grilled onions, mayo and ketchup.

    I like my burger chargrilled but cooked through, I can handle a medium rare steak but like burgers fully cooked.  The burger patty itself I don't like too thick either.

    Gotta have raw onions, tomato relish, cheese, a little lettuce, tomato and pickles, bun I like toasted a little.

    80-20 - Fresh, hand pattied Ground chuck meat - Medium rare - sauteed onions, good quality sharp cheddar, good juicy tomato slice, salt n pepper on a good baked roll.  Legitimate fries (fresh Idaho - twice fried) cooked in peanut oil.  Plenty of napkins.  Barrel cured pickles on the side with creamy cole slaw.

    I grew up in Cedarhurst in Nassau County, Long Island. We had a diner in town (Central Diner) where they made their own prepared mustard. I loved my .20 cent (mid 1950's) cheeseburgers with this mustard on them.

    If that's addressed to me the answer is absolutely never. The only thing I like about the hamburgers at Louis Lunch is the fact that there's no catsup allowed.

    1/3 LB. 80/20 Medium rare with double cheddar, raw onion, ketchup, tomato, (I lived in California for a while) and pickles on a toasted, soft sesame seeded bun. Mustard is OK, as well.
    I love them charbroiled but, cooked on a flat top grill is good, too.
    A vanilla shake would be my beverage of choice.

    Lately, I've been buying grass fed ground beef at Wholefoods for my burgers at home. It's a totally guilt free burger. At home I like to mix 2/3 ketchup with 1/3 mayo and a teaspoon of sweet pickle relish to make my own "special sauce". Adding a little hickory sauce is good too.

    I was raised in NY and always had ketchup on my burgers.

    I never heard of putting mustard on one til I was as Ft Hood TX and they put mustard on all their burgers - and I about died,

    Baah Ben, you hit the nail on the head. I got extremely sicj once after eating a less than well done burger. got sick from Indian food one time and it took me years before I would partake in it again.

    I like a quarter-pound hamburger cooked well done or medium well done, served with mustard, raw onion, and dill pickle slices.

    In the rare cases where a burger is good enough, I like it plain on a regular bun. Other times just ketchup and a slice of raw onion. Never cheese.

    I come from NY too and never heard of anything other than ketchup or onion or chese on a burger until the first MacDonald's arrived in the mid '60s and they put a pickle directly on the burger which was unheard of until then.

     I must admit that I seldom order a Burger in a 'sit-down' restaurant that has more than Burgers on the Menu. At places like 5 Guys or Culvers I will, but most folks would label those places as FF.

     I look for a Club Sandwich or a good BLT rather than a Burger on a Diner Sandwich menu!

    I do like Farmer Boys Farmer Burger which fits Capt Jacks SoCal description up above. A large Double-Patty CheeseBurger (Swiss or Provolone if they are available) , Several slices of Bacon, Tomato, Avocado slices, and Red Onion. Hold the Lettuce and Pickles. I'll shoot some BBQ Sauce on it or Brown Mustard at the table.

    A side of Zucchini Spears and/or Onion Rings would be my first choice for a side...Extra-Well-Done FF would be a second choice !

    Coke/Pepsi or Sweet tea with Lemon would be the beverage of choice.

    I was a bus kid at a WHite Spot rest in Littleton Co back in 69.  The owner had his own special meal.  He called it the "Super Special"  It was pretty simple.  The standard 1/4lb Super Burger one a swsame seed bun.  The bonus was 3 strips of crisp bacon and a slice of raw onion melted undre cheddar cheese.  Myself, I dont like cheese burgers.  The cheese on top of warm beef doesnt do it for me.  I loved that one though.  It reminded me of the Teen Burger A&W use to have.

    Burger cooked Med. Carolina Classic style, Chili,Slaw,Onion and Mustard. Twice Fried Fries, topped with Chili and Large Sweet Tea..Tums on the side with a Altoid for the onions.

    I like a 1/2 pound burger cooked med rare, not to thick with the works on a toasted or grilled sesame seed roll.

    Cheese (anything but bleu) Raw onion, lettuce, tomato (only if in season), ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles.
     
    I like em sloppy...at least a 5 napkin burger. 
     
    Add an order of good Onion Rings or properly cooked hand cut fries and an ice cold Straub and I'm a happy man.

    I have been grinding my own meat for about a year now ever since I saw one of the workers cough right over the meat he was working on at the local supermarket. I use chuck roasts that I get from Costso and do all the trimming myself..this way I know what is in there & it just tastes better.
     
    My burger would be a 1/3 pound patty that has salt, pepper, worc sauce, chopped cherry peppers (very fine chop) and some garlic powder worked into the meat. Cooked to medium-rare then topped with thinly sliced red onion, mayo, lettuce, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and some cheap yellow mustard served on an onion roll.
     
    Wash it all down with an ice cold beer.......

    I've gotten into the habit of asking for my burger "medium rare, or rarer if you feel comfortable serving it".  Sometimes it comes out medium rare and sometimes it moos, like this patty melt I got last year:


    For cheese my current preference is Swiss, Cheddar if that's not available, and if I have to I'll settle for American.  If I'm eating somewhere that offers a more eclectic cheese selection I might try something different.

    Bacon?  Yes, please.  Mushrooms if they're available.  If the mushrooms are in a sauce I won't use any condiments; otherwise, a little yellow or brown mustard is a nice touch.

    This is quite a question.I guess it depends on what kind of burger I want.Mostly, I order cheese, fried onions and dill picle slices.No need for condiments.But if i order a mushroom swiss burger, its just that but add brown mustard.Years ago we had a local restaurant that had a burger with cheese, bacon and bbq sauce.Excellent. And on occasion, a burger with just cheese and bacon.

    What I get on the burger depends on the mood and what "feels" good at the time. I have had some spectacular ones recently, last night I had a sauteed onion, cheddar cheese, and an excellent BBQ sauce.
     
    But there are a few things that are pretty standard for me that go into an excellent base for the burger. 8-10 oz. Medium Rare griddled. Put in on a slightly toasted potato roll bun that yields slightly but also will hold up to the onslaught of juice from the burger.
     
    Mmmm... beef.
