Ten favourite restaurants in the world

I am an Englishman who has travelled pretty widely (correction: very widely) throughout the world. I have a house in France where I spend a lot of time. I am also a big fan of Roadfood for when I am in the USA. It might interest other Roadfooders to know what my favourite restaurants in the world are. Not the best but simply the ones which give me the most pleasure. Doe’s Eat Place, Greenville, Mississippi, USA. The best steaks anywhere and the best atmosphere too. Champion by a very long way. Vlado’s, Melbourne, Australia. A tiny restaurant for serious carnivores only. Very simple and very good. Las Nazarenas, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Yet another steak heaven. Not cheap but mind-blowingly good. Donde Augusto , Central Market, Santiago, Chile. A stall in the central fish market which sells the best abalone in the world. La Meuniere, Lyon, France. The perfect Lyon "bouchon". Great food at low price. Buffet de la Gare, Belleville-sur-Saône, France. The old station restaurant in Beaujolais, France. Boss Oyster, Apalachicola, Florida, USA. Stay away if you dont like oysters. Eat over the dock. Le Grand Vefour, Paris, France. The most beautiful restaurant in the world. Which also happens to serve fabulous (Michelin 3 stars) food at fabulously high prices. Oyster Bar Grand Central Station, New York, USA. More oysters. 28 different varieties. And not too expensive either. Wurstkucherl, Regensburg, Germany. A tiny shack on the banks of the Danube which serves only bratwurst, soup and beer. Stupendous.

Doe's and the Oyster Bar I agreee w/. Nothing in Japan? The little sushi bar on the banks of the river in Kyoto...nothing in English in the place or on the sign so the only way I get there is by pointing to the cabbie. THE largest pieces of sushi anywhere. Eight to ten inches long and an inch thick. They usually kill the fish in front of you when you order. If I didn't show them my Itochu Intl business card they wouldn't let me in.

Ah ha, I see. Oyster Bar, nice, but Balthazaar in Soho offers a comparable oyster selection, along with an incomparable host of other fantastic dishes and unbeatable ambience- at a competitive price.
