I agree with you guys about the different Active Topics layout. The old forum was better in that respect, but there are so many other pluses in this upgrade that it can be overlooked.

I went to profile and "moved" me to Gainesville as I haven't lived in Newberry for 4 years, so I'm testing again. If I'm still living in Newberry so be it. I guess I should quit playing around and get to work...

OK, that worked. Question: When creating a post, there is an option to "Attach Files". What is that for? What kind of files would one attach, and why? Thanks.

I think it looks great! Sure it will take a while to get used to and some of the photos in my latest trip report are small beyond recognition, but all the bugs will be worked out soon enough. Lots of cool, new features I am going to enjoy checking out!

I'm getting the pictures normal size, well, smaller than in the old format but not crazy small. Is that a browser version thing? Otherwise, looks great up in here guys--nice work.

I like the new message forum. There will be some getting used to it and figuring out, but there appears to be a lot more potential in its use. The improvement I most like is you can go to the first new message in a thread and start reading there. The second most improvement I like is after you have read a thread you can readily see that you have done so.

I understand that you had to switch to another format, but can you restore the size of the characters and pictures in the ratio that we were used to? If I enlarge the characters with my keyboard, I can read them--but I can't read the entire post because the screen isn't wide enough to encompass it (and using the keyboard to go right to left in order to read the text gets a bit tiresome after a while). As it stands now, I'll get eyestrain trying to read any of the posts. Just enlarge the type and everything will be fine.

I'm seeing the Mississsippi thread pictures OK. It must be the browser thing discussed earlier. I'm using FireFox 3.0.5 (the newest) on a Mac. I am guessing but here is a thought I haven't tested. If you post a photo that is more than 800 pixels wide the software is going to reduce it down to 800. I think if you post a photo less than 800 pixels wide in the same message the software may also reduce that photo the same proportion in the message with the wider photos. Could that have happened with MiamiDon's menu photos? Would it also affect other photos in other messages in a thread?

OK, I give up. How can I go Forums / Active Topics / Since Last Login? Or at least something similar.

Snitz never did an accurate job tracking posts. If your post was deleted or if a thread was wacked in the old forum you would still get post credit. Your current post count is the actual number of your posts in the database

Same thing just happened to my post count...had around 750 last night, & that shrunk down to 564...the road to 1,000 just got a bit longer!

I just did a query between the old database and the new one on the number of messages associated to your profile - accordingly, the new database is 100% accurate. No messages were lost in the transfer and your post count is now correct.

porkbeaks I just found this thread and I thought this would be a good place to ask.....what's the chance of a system by which, when subscribing to a topic, the subscriber would receive only 1 email notification of a thread's new response? Pizzamaking.com does this and it sure is more convenient. I get 1 notification and no more until I respond to the 1st one. pb My solution is to put the actual topic that's being responded to in the subject line of the E-mail you send out. I often don't get to check my personal stuff for 2 or 3 days, and will just delete the 59 other messages and open the first one that says a reply has been posted to whatever topic. The logistics may well be a nightmare, though.

There does seem to be one little quirk with the new software (OK, I am sure that there is more than one, but this is the one that I discovered). From the roadfood.com home page, on the recent threads list, there is a link to take you to the last post in the thread. Today, this simply takes you to the first post in the thread. I thought maybe that it took you to the first unread post, and with the software conversion, it just assumed that all the posts were unread - but, the same thing is happening this afternoon, on threads that I know I have clicked on previously today.

ok, where do I find the photos I have uploaded to RF as an insider to post them onto a thread?? I clicked into "insider" but could not find the list, before there was a tab for upload photos and it took you to that page. I can't find that page anymore!

In the old way when you didnt log in for a few days you could search all of the threads that you had posts in. Then scroll down to each of the catagories to see if anyone had commented since the last time you posted. Can this still be done or is that feature gone. Thanks ...Russ

When I first went on today at work, I was very upset by the small pictures. Then I realized it's got to be the OS or browser. At work they only have XP Pro still (very backwards, though on a T1) and Explorer of Olde. At home I've got a brand new laptop, so I have Vista and Explorer 7. And the pictures are fine. My only complaint is I can't use my Comic Sans MS font, which I have been using forever on here and anywhere (including work). But it looks as if I'm in the minority, as most RF posters just want to get their post on and have no time for such shilly-shally frippery! And I don't blame them! So yeah, I like it for the most part. I hope it always opens quickly and that I don't lose my posts mid-post. I lost an entire trip report (while getting towards the end of it) a day or so before I got this new computer, and it kinda soured me! So maybe this one will work better. Here's another thing the old one was really starting to do, and please if somebody could tell me it wasn't my imagination (because it was happening on this new computer as well): the page was jumping. Literally jumping around. I'd go to click on a heading or a thread or whatever, and it wouldn't be the one I clicked, because the page had jumped at that moment! So we'll see; hopefully this one will learn to keep still. Thanks, Mr. Rushmore, for all your efforts.
