"My Dearest Vivian, I write this letter with a hesitant heart. Tonight we have been given our objective, Normandy and the support of a massive invasion to help liberate the French. I can not say more, but know this my love. I love you and hope with my entire heart that I get to see you again. I will write again when I return from the mission, I love You Darrel" This was the letter written to my grandmother on the eve of the great invasion, 65 years ago today. I want to Thank All those who served to defend and protect us, you are truly the Greatest Generation. (yes I know its early here, but I am going on GMT, and it is all ready D-Day)

Cajun and all , On my radio show today on WTBQ we thanked all that served that day and too all our troops near and afar , in advance of the 65th Anniversary of D Day . We played " God Bless The USA " by Lee Greenwald . I heard this song live a few years ago at a Freedom Concert that Sean Hannity organized and was with Chris Ryan , the father of Marine Sgt Eddie Ryan at the time . Eddie was severley injured in Iraq back in 05 and we did a lot of fundraising to make his home handicap accessible for him . www.helpeddieryan.com tells his story . No words were spoken , goose bumps all around and a tear was shed for all in harms way . God Bless our troops !!!! Benzee

France's leader gave a wonderful speech. Our President was terrific as well. A tribute well deserved.

Speechs are given by politicians many of whom never served a day, who in fact avoided duty, but now can speak of sacrifice with wonderous words---------blood is given by patriots, many of them 18 year old kids with love in their hearts for their country. Just my opinion !!!!!!!!!

I too honor those D Day veterans. My dad was not at D Day but he did serve in WWII. He had a deferement(he was a farmer), but he enlisted. My grandmother was always so proud that he enlisted. She told me of the Sunday morning in 1943 when she & my grandfather took my dad to the train station to go off to the Army. He did not return home until May 27,1946( My mom & dad were married 2 days later & I wa born March 26,1947). After dropping him off they came back home & my grandfather sat down & cried. I have 3 boys & cannot imagine seeing them leave for war & not knowing when or if they would return. I am so proud to be the daughter & grandaughter of such brave people.

Thank you CK for the very special personal and historic message. Your grandfather's letter represents the depth of conviction necessary. The events of "D Day" presented the Allied soldiers seemingly unsurmental obsticles to achieve a victory. THEY ACHIEVED VICTORY!!!!!!! I'm a proud Vietnam era veteran currently serving as post commander, The American Legion.

M Brookes --- preserving the America I knew may be hard to do------there are a lot of people around today who don't feel the way we did back then.

But a lot of us still do. We are just seeing (I'm trying not to get political and cut off) that there is a lot of work to be done. Some is preservation and some is restoration.
