First I have a recommendation of my own. If you live anywhere in the vicinity of the Hudson Valley, I suggest going to
Magnanini Winery for your Thanksgiving meal in
Wallkill, NY. It's an all day affair like going to an old fashioned Italian wedding complete with an accordian band and all the family style italian inspired holiday food you can eat. The day starts off with a wine tasting downstairs in the cantina with plenty of homemade coppa, salumni and tagliatelle to pass around. Make sure to take a look at the photos and the menu on the website magwine.com And you won't believe the deal they give you on their wine.
I've been going to Magnanni for several years now but this year I just have to try something different. So I was hoping some of you might have some suggestions about your own hidden gem for the holiday. Something with entertainment would be ideal, but not absolutely necessary. Anything within 2 hours of southwestern CT can be considered in CT, NY, NJ, MA, VT, RI or PA.
Below are some of the places I've been considering. If anyone can share any information about them or add some suggestions to the list, please let me know.
The Mill on the River Restaurant, South Windsor CT Probably in the best tradition of Thanksgiving on CT's oldest dam built together by Colonists and the Podunk Indians.
The Woodward House, Bethlehem CT The New Mill Restaurant, Plantsville CT Salem Cross Inn, West Brookfield MA Colonial fare and entertainment.
Avon Old Farms Inn, Avon CT Live music.
Curtis House Inn, Woodbury CT I've been to the Griswold Inn, in Essex, CT which claims to be the oldest inn in CT. I've never been to the Curtis which makes the same claim.
Rhinecliff Hotel, Rhinecliff NY Live music on the river. I've been to Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, but haven't eaten down near the riverbank train station in Rhinecliff.
Andes Hotel and Restaurant, Andes NY Live music in the Catskills.
