Thanksgiving is over................ Thu, 11/24/05 10:45 PM (permalink)
..........Did you try anything new this year? I made a peach bread pudding. I love good bread pudding but had never tried anything with it but the old tried and true type. I found this recipe that called for some chopped up peaches in it and thought it sounded good, I changed the recipe a little, I added a few slices of peaches to the top also. It was a hit!

I figure this is my holiday. I'm full, but I could still have a slice of that. It looks good. I like the tablecloth, too. Happy Thanksgiving. Can we do it again tomorrow?

      "Thanksgiving is over................"

10 + hours of cooking (combined). Less than 45 minutes of "eating".

      I have a BIG freezer...

      Everyone gets leftovers for Christmas!!!!!!!!!

I would imagine we all have our own "hangover cures" for the post-holiday recovery. Our family has two completely different patterns (one for each of us).

Janet got up, grabbed a bunch of the 'specials' ads and coupons gleaned from one of the kid's major newspapers yesterday and headed out at about 7am...not to fight the doorbusters, but to be in the second wave!! She then will do a round at "CURVES" before heading home at noon. She works at 2-10pm shift this afternoon.

I, on the other hand was up at 8am , warmed a plate of Turkey, misc other leftovers, and two pieces of Pumpkin Pie. Then I checked out Roadfood.com, cleared the emails, and checked the location of the Sees candy order we made the other day. (UPS Tracking site). Our box should arrive today. Janets mother's will show up in April I hope !
Now to bundle up a bit and see how the dog's are doing in the Great Gopher(Mole) Dig they started a couple of days ago in what was the garden. 2 Moles killed so far and they aren't finished yet!

Yep, The Holiday is over, It's back to the pressure of the (Retired) Rat-Race!! (Temp this morning was 18 ..but will warm to 40 by noon.

                  Peach Bread Pudding

9 Cups bread cubed. May use old buns or what ever you have.
1 1/2 cups cut up frozen peaches.
                  1/2 cup raisins.
                  1 teaspoon cinnamon

Place all of above in a large mixing bowl.

In a seperate mixing bowl beat 6 eggs.
add 1 3/4 cup apple juice.
                  add 1 cup sugar.
                  add 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
add 3/4 cup butter milk or sour milk

                  mix well with a wisk

pour the egg mixture into the bread mixture and fold gently coating all of the bread. let set about 30 min.

pour into a greased baking dish (mine was about 7 3/4 X 11)

put several slices of the remaining frozen peaches on top.

Sprinkle the top with 1/2 cup packed brown sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and dot with butter.

Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 min or untill a knife insearted in the center comes out clean.

                  ENJOY!

                  Butch

My husband and i tried brining a turkey this year, we brined an 11 pounder with a recipe we saw Wolf gang Puck do on the food network. They turkey was beautiful, it was SUPER golden brown all over. My husband didnt care for the brine taste (cloves ,maple syrup, ginger and Honey) the meat was a little too salty. I also made my own turkey broth by sauteing up the neck and giblets with shallots, celery and carrots and simmering the pot for two hours. The homemade broth was great for the gravy. I think next year I'll just stick to smothering the bird with garlic compound butter and basting with the same thing every now and then. The homemade broth I'll do all the time.
