We've been talking a lot on another threat about the worst fast food franchise...and boy do we have different opinions...BUT..what is that franchise you LOOK for when far away from home..the chain you can trust as a general rule, for constant quality and enjoyable menu. I'm curious. leethebard

Sonic or Waffle House. There are others I trust to get the exact same thing every time, but I actually enjoy the food at those two.

Felix4067,I'll agree with you...I like both those....especially Waffle House for a good Breakfast...I'd also add The Cracker Barrel....food consistent...as is the setting...one place to another. lee

Soft-Drinks? SONIC, I don't buy much food at Sonic but they are top-rated in my book for the Slushes!! Both the Cherry-Lime (with extra Lime) and the Strawberry-Lemon are outstanding. Chicken? POPEYES wins everytime. Good stuff (Spicy) and at bargain prices. Burgers? Midwest- CULVERS. SoCal- FARMER BOYS and IN N OUT Taco's ? JACK IN THE BOX 2 for a buck. Not Hi-Quality, But so addictive!!

Well, it's a new year. I suppose it is about time this board had another 500 post fight about Waffle House. Sometimes this site is like an evil merry-go-round.

Waffle House is not classified as a fast food place.

Today, my son and granddaugter and I went to the Waffle House in Frederick, MD, a 30 mile drive for us. It seemed like most of the people there came in every single day. When one elderly gentleman walked out, every employee in the place said "Goodbye Mr. Bill.................see you tomorrow>" Now that is endearing and so unlike a chain. I love Waffle House for the "hometown" and neighborly feeling that one gets there. Incidentally, we sat at the counter and "Mr. Bill" sat next to me. He had a full breakfast and left exactly 51 cents as his tip and I learned that he left the same tip every single day...........terrible tip in my opinion, but he was treated most graciously.....................gotta love the WH.

I've always enjoyed Waffle House ... A chain, but not FF. I break my no chain rule for Steak & Shake and White Castle ... not much beyond that though.

I don't have any of the above mentioned in my area but around here it would have to be a Boston Market. Not the beast but a step above the rest. Chow Jim

LOLOL pigiron. I would second Chick-Fil-A. Now keep in mind folks, that in Indiana there are non-Waffle House Waffle Houses (I believe the ones that kept the name predated the chain). Those are totally Roadfood, and quite often the best joint in town for breakfast--I submit the one in Bloomington for evidence.

Chipotle's. Best Fast Food IMO. I cannot stand any ff fried chicken and basically use McDonald's only for a cheap on the run breakfast. ($1.00 chicken biscuit) No Wendy's, BK, TB, Arby's, etc. for me. Occasionally, I'll opt for a Chic-Fil-A grilled chicken salad if I'm pressed into eating at a mall food court (tough to eat a salad while driving).

My favorite fast food place is Culver's. They have a variety of meals not many fast food places can compare to from hamburgers, to steak sandwiches, to fish sandwiches, to chicken sandwiches all made from quality ingredients. You also have a choice between a malt or a shake and fries or onion rings.

I like the fact that the serve fresh. You sit down and your order is delivered. Not premade. Great burgers, fish sandwich and everything else. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

The remark about Culver's reminded me ... yes, they are viable and so is Farmer Boy's in Socal.

I enjoyed a Culver's Bacon Burger this morning and as usual it was a very good Burger. While talking with the manager of our local Culvers, he let know that the Walleye will be back on the menu at the end of this month. That means we will start eating the fish sandwich again instead of the Burgers for awhile. Culvers makes an excellent Walleye Sandwich (Remember we are in Southern Indiana where Walleye on the menu is not a normal/regular choice!)

Also, I was assuming we were taling about nationally known places. I mean, Doug's Fish Fry is "Fast Food" (you order and pick up from a counter) and it's one of the best fish fries I've ever been to ( and I've been to a lot of fish frys), but that isn't really helpful for anyone who lives outside or doesn't visit the Central NY area.

I consider it fast food. The food comes fast food wrapped. It is not delivered sit down restaurant style. They also have drive-up window ordering. The wait is not very long and they give you drinks right away and you pick everything else up at a condiment station. If you order something other than a burger at McDonald's you can sometimes have just as long a wait or more and less conveniently to boot.
