The Best NEW MEXICO Foods outside of New Mexico!

The Richardsons of New Mexico Family of Restaurants are located in North Phoenix. The 3 restaurants are Richardson's, Dick's Hideaway and Rokerij's. They serve the best New Mexican Cuisine you'll ever eat! Plenty of Green Chiles, Spicy Dishes and New Mexican inspired fare. Can you say "Home of the Original Green Chile Potato"?
Howard Seftel, local food critic, gives them 4 stars which coming from him is high praise! Here's his review:

For those of you who love the foods of New Mexico, you need to check these places out on your next visit!
BuffetBuster - Their Green Chile Cheeseburger just might make you forget Bobcat Bites! (Maybe)
Breakfast/Brunch at Dick's Hideaway is on the "Must Have" List!

Thanks for posting this Foodbme, but I remain skeptical that their green chile cheeseburger is going to be as good as Bobcat Bite.  Next time in Phoenix, I would like to visit the place and promise to keep an open mind.

New Mexican cuisine is the best food most people don't know about.  I've been making my own green chile cheeseburgers, ordering beef jerky direct from NM.    I've got to check a few local Hispanic tiendas for what items they may have on their shelves, but until then the occasional trip to Jungle Jim's keeps me pretty well stocked.

I've been to Richardson's, and it's pretty good.  It's basically methadone for my NM food addiction.  I'm not sure it *quite* satisfies me as well as some of the NM places (it's very, very hard to take the place of Bobcat Bite), but it's pretty good.

I was being a little facetious. I don't think anyone's GCCB can beat Bobcat Bites.

When we were in Nashville I asked buffetbuster a tough question.  Out of all your travels could you possibly have one favorite?  Without hesitation the answer was,
    Bobcat Bite.
    I would have to agree.

Heck not only did I not know about it, I just assumed it would be basically similar  between Arizona and New Mexico

New Mexico Cuisine is distinguished by the extensive use of Chiles, Beans & Corn. Especially the New Mexico Chile which is a Variety of the Anaheim Chile. This Chile is commonly known as Hatch Chile. Hatch Chiles are not a separate species of Chile, it's just grown in the general vicinity of Hatch NM and as a result of the soil & climate, gives it distinctive characteristics.
The New Mexico chile, especially when harvested as green chile, is perhaps the defining ingredient of New Mexican food compared to neighboring styles. Chile is New Mexico's largest agricultural crop. Red Chiles are the result of letting Green Chiles continue to grow and then change color along with a drying process. Red and green varieties, depend on the stage of ripeness when picked. New Mexican Recipes are strongly influenced by Native American & Spanish influences. TX and AZ recipes are more influenced by Mexican ingredients. New Mexican foods are generally "Hotter" than Tex-Mex or Sonoran ingredients.
For New Mexican recipes, I suggest you pick up any of Jane Butel's Cookbooks. She's my go to source for New Mexican food. http://www.janebutelcooking.com

Little Anita's New Mexican is from New Mexico. But they now have four restaurants in the Denver Metro area.

I've posted this in Misc. but thought I would post it here too:
The 2012 Hatch Chili Festival is on right now and I would suggest that if you are ever in the State of New Mexico on Labor Day Weekend to come and visit the one and only Authentic Hatch Chili Festival.

Haven't found any New Mexican restaurants in the Los Angeles area.

I'm a fan of Little Anita's having eaten there a few times.

I'd never think of a hamburger as being New Mexican Food, but I guess with the addition of green chiles it qualifies... and it's in New Mexico.

When in New Mexico I'm there for the sauces, soppapillas and pinion coffee if I can find it being served.  Those are the things that set it apart from what I can get here.

A "local" grocer ( Fresh Market, Asheville, NC I belive) had a shipment of fresh NM chiles last week and I bought a bunch of them and made carne adovada and was so good with the real chiles.
