Iggies in Baltimore is fairly new, but I love their neopolitan pizza. The crust is thin but still with chew. Too often thin crust pizza is like a cracker.

I get the Anatra, which is duck confit, asparagus red onion and blue cheese.

We hit Pizzeria Delfina (add a .com for their web site) while on vacation in San Francisco last week. I'm not sure I'd declare it the best pie I've ever had, but it was certainly among the best. I had the clam pie. It had just a light sprinkling of cheese; about as little as you'll see short of a flat out tomato pie. But the crust (very thin with some black in spots, but raised considerably around the edge) and sauce were tremendous, and the Cherrystone clams were tasty too.

Marty's Pizza in Brookfeild, WI. Great thin crust with fennel sausage. It's where I learned to love anchovies.

The best thin pizza in Lake County, Illinois is without question the Quonset Hut in Waukegan. Also, good meatball sandwiches with a great red sauce.

I've got to give some props to southern pizza. Pepe's (now defunct) in Venice, Fla. is the best I've ever had--it's how I imagined NY pizza to be, but it turned out to be better. Mama Leone's, in the same city, is also very, very good, though not as classic New York. Here in Chattanooga, our own Lupi's makes an exceptional pie, and I'll through in a + for ambience. Unlike the cramped John's Pizza in NYC, it's fun to hang out for an extended time at Lupi's, drink a Foster's on draft, have a great salad or bruschetta as well.

All over the south, there is exceptional pizza. Mellow Mushroom, though, is too doughy. If I want a loaf of bread, I'll make one.

New York Style: Consol's Family Kitchen (aka Duff's) in Endicott, NY. I know, pretty random place but I went a few times and never let me down for a perfect NY pie.

Chicago Style: My Pie on Clark st. in Chicago. Awesome!!!

Have to say it was the Patsys up on 117-118th on First Ave in Manhattan, before it was sold in the mid 90's, still decent but not the same. There was another one up on Second Ave by the bus stop on 116th, I can't remember the name now but it disappeared in the late 1960's, it had a very distinctive taste, another was by the arcade and rides out in Staten Island by South Beach. They were what we grew up on in NYC in the 50's and none I have ever had all over in my travels have ever compared to them. I think it is what you grow up on that forms your opinion of "Best", if you enjoyed it than usually none will ever compare to it.

Finally! Great pizza, Neapolitan-style, has come to Dallas!

http://www.olivellas.com/

Everything's fresh and of superior quality.

BTW: Patsy Grimaldi's just opened a branch downtown and is soon going to be baking with coal in Allen. I'm looking forward to Allen's store, but I must say that Olivella's is superior to what I ate at their Scottsdale location.

You can judge a Pete & Elda's lover by the amount of souvenir shirts they've earned!!!!

1) John's, on Bleecker St. -- Sausage pizza

2) Vinny-Van-Go-Gos -- Savannah, Georgia -- I like the Hawaiian pie

3) And I also like Domino's thin crust which I suppose will get me kicked off this forum.

No, but it then does make us wonder about the quality of the rest of your choices.

Has anyone ever tried Portofino in Charlotte, NC? Trying to decide if it's worth the trip from Greensboro. We need a pizza fix really bad. Only get to New Haven about 2 times/yr.

Nothing better than New Haven, CT Pizza. We love any one of 10 Neopolitan pizza places in the New Haven area.

Having grownup in southern CT you know my choice infact rumor had it mom was addicted to Pepe's and when i was born i was IV'd Peppe's at birth. 1999 moved to West Coast ment no more pizza till I was turned on to Papa Murphy. My annual return to Bellingham Washington starts with a Papa Murphy and my flight back to China one is tied to my tongue.
