After that, I can envision someone suing Roadfood.com when their spouse who is a member keels over from a heart attack.

I suppose a start would be to begin cutting back on the foie gras.

These people would have us all eating raw greens and not much else. Most of the stuff they showed is condemned because it's fried but if you fry it in a healthy oil like canola the jury's very much out on whether it's bad for you. As to the rest, it's portion dependent. Just don't eat it in huge amounts.

Anyone who has had success with low-carb diets like Atkins or South Beach know that all this fat bashing is non-sense. It's the refined carbs that kill you. Six months on Atkins and I lost 50 pounds and my cholesterol levels dropped tremendously, except for the good cholesterol, which went up. I don't worry about fat content anymore.

I think the key is eating somewhere between Robert Atkins and Orson Welles's choices. It's not as though eating nothing but tofu will guarantee you a 100th birthday. I remember when Adelle Davis was diagnosed with cancer and a reporter quized her on why that could happen? She replied that was because she had eaten white meat chicken until she was 12 years old. At that point I figured I was doomed anyway and after 11 months of a strict macrobiotic diet, I went out and bought a package of my biggest craving, Usinger hot dogs! While I still eat somewhat healthy, I no longer deny myself anything that sounds good and tasty. I look forward to having that staple of Iron Chef, foie gras someday.

And then you have to worry about journalists who can write the following drivel: For example, many well-heeled and normally calorie-conscious regulars flock to restaurants where the most popular dishes are often the least healthy. For example, New York City’s famed 21 Club sold almost 3,000 plates of its sinfully creamy chicken hash in 2004—no doubt to the horror of the diners' doctors. The reason is that its main ingredients—cream, butter, flour and cheese, in addition to chicken—are all fat. Last I looked, flour was still in the carbohydrate column.

I have the perfect fix for me. I'm going to stop paying attention to Forbes.
