The Captain's Galley

I learned today that The Captain's Galley Restaurant in Crisfield, on Maryland's easten shore, has closed, at least temporarily. For those of you who never visited the place, it was located on Main Street in Crisfield, right on the water, and had plenty of local color and very good seafood. Apparently, they sold out to a builder who is going to construct condominiums on the site. Although the plan is to put a new "Captain's Galley" in the condo building, see http://www.delmarvanow.com/somerset/stories/20041124/1642547.html , who knows if it will have the same ownership or personnel, not to mention the same quality of food. A shame!

I'm sure it will be the same owner. They already have a second Captain's Galley in Ocean City so they own the name. No one else could open up using that name.

That's a shame! I remember that place! My former husband and I used to go to Crisfield quite a bit, and just fish from the end of the pier there. We ate at the Captain's Galley once, but usually ate at the Side Street Seafood market restaurant. I love that whole area; they're condo-izing that too, huh...

The Maryland/Virginia Eastern Shore is just a fantastic place to relax and get away for a weekend. You don't drive long, but feel you're a world away.

I just wanted all of you to know!! Captain's Galley in Crisfield MD was torn down yesterday. The restaurant was the last to be torn down. It has been closed for a couple months because it was bought out so they could put more condos in... there is a Captain's Galley in Ocean City Md but it is not as good. I just thought that everyone should know.

"The Galley" has reopened. http://www.captainsgalleyonline.com/ I don't know if it's as good as the original or if the ownership has changed. My wife and I own some property in Crisfield so we go there on occasion. We'll try it on our next visit and report the results.

Thanks for keeping us informed. I only made it to the Captain's Galley once, but I thought it was quite good. Hopefully, the new place will be just as good. I look forward to hearing how your meal goes.

We went there last July and from what I understand it is the original owner's daughter's restaurant and she uses her mom's crab cake recipe. We thought it was the best crab cake and soft shelled crab we had on our trip. They were extremely courteous, nice and friendly. We tried the Smith Island cake at her insistence. They built condos on the location of the old spot and the restaurant is on the second level (bottom is parking I believe). I never wrote up anything on it but we have pix and all kinds of notes.

That is good news that the restaurant is in the same family and the food is still really good. If you have pics and notes, how about writing a review and posting it?

FYI.. we stopped at the CG on our trip up the DelMarVa last weekend. It is on the second floor of the condos that were apparently built on the site of the old spot. Awesome view and pretty good food too! We had (what else) crab cakes, and flounder stuffed with crab imperial.

I was in Crisfield over the weekend.  The Captain's Galley is closed again.  Whether this is permanent or temporary, the man at the visitor's center wasn't 100% sure.
