The Clam Poll this week

This is so unfair. Very hard for me because I enjoy them all equally as well. I often thought if I was to go in the seafood resturant business I would offer a Clamteizer as an appetizer menu choice. Cup of Clam chowder Small portion of steamers Small portion of fried clams A couple of stuffies A scoop of clam pie A few clam fritters What a way to start a meal. Chow Jim

Here in Clam-Starved Indiana we settle for Chowder most of the time, with some fried clam strips available now and then. What I crave are SIX dozen Steamers in their liquor with Melted Butter for lunch. Then at 4 PM (Same Day) give me a large box of Ipswich Fried Whole-Bellies with a side of Onion Rings and Slaw. For later that evening, give me a Snack of a dozen Clams Casino with another bowl of that thick creamy Chowder. That should cure my craving! After a day or so I would be ready to begin filling my Oyster Craving...and then a day or so later it could be Shrimp Craving Time !!

Rusty, I remember liking clams, when I used to eat them (and when I used to live in CT...). I am sure I can get them here in Israel, but as I keep kosher I do not eat them out of religious reasons. If fake clam chowder appeared on a menu here I would not order it.

OK, Mayor, I"ll go along with your scallop orgy <g>. I love Bay scallops, sea scallops, fried, broiled, in sauce, outta sauce, but never, never, never overwhelmed or over-cooked. A close watch on the clock is needed if you're going to do them well. Sort of like clams, although there is more leeway there in some dishes. Sorry, although I grew up on Cape Cod and now live near the Chesapeake, never got into crabs. Caught plenty of them in my youth, sold them to start my fortune (!), but never got a hankering for them. Fortunately, married a gal who although summered on the Maine Coast, never cared for them either. Almost divorced her when I found out she didn't like Clams or Scallops either! (not really - the divorce part, not the dislike part)). Now, Lobster and Crayfish and Langoustino's............that's a WHOLE NEW TOPIC! Love 'em! (She tolerates them)

Langoustino's. I used to LOVE them - my mom would make them scampi style. I used to be able to get them frozen in the local markets, but here, in NJ anyway, they've disappeared! I was just looking for them as a matter of fact the other day Sue

For me it's a nice big plate of icy cold raw littlenecks with just a squeeze of lemon and some fresh horseradish and cracked black pepper or some Mirugai (Geoduck clam) sushi with a touch of wasabi.

Can anyone tell me the name of a brand of (frozen) fried clams that can be purchased in a supermarket? I can't find any in the Dallas markets. This thread has gotten my mouth watering for them. As a kid in NY, I loved the Howard Johnson's (frozen) fried clams. I was able to buy them in the grocery stores.

Thanks, Ann. I'll order from the site you mentioned. But, first, I'll take a closer look in here in Dallas. I have a few places in mind I haven't tried yet. Again, thanks.

I must admit that I have used Mrs. Paul's frozen fish cakes in the past. To my taste buds I found them to be very good. A good handy item for my last minute fix of fish cakes and beans. If you have a Trader Joe's in your area I notice in their frozen section they carry steamers, not sure if they are piss clams though. Chow Jim
