Keep in mind this outing is part of the JRPfeff/Pie Diva Bucket List Tour. This is their gathering and I'm just doing my best to facilitate everything. Whether it is a "before opening" private party, or a "regular hours" meet-up is up to them, and how many people actually want to participate. If it goes to a "regular hours" gathering, the time is up to the participants. You guys need to agree on a time with an alternate in case the time you want is already booked. I will help clarify the order, hand carry it to Burt, and make sure you're well taken care of. But if this happens during regular hours, you're regular customers. You need to work out the timing and the order amongst yourselves, and I'll do my best to make sure you have a good time. Buddy

CTD, We have officially given up on the private party. Our plan is to be at Burt's at 4:30 (or earlier if someone happens to leave the door open). If it helps your attendance, we wouldn't mind sliding back the start to some time no later than 6:00. That puts the Cheeseheads on the road home (or to a second destination) at a reasonable hour. Jim

So, that's the official word from the organizer; no private party. The 4:30 start is smart. Now all you need to do is start getting me your orders. Keep in mind, there's a 16 person limit, so once I've got a commitment (in the form a full pizza order) from those 16 people, the window is closed. You'll still be able to get in, but it will be at a later time, and I can't guarantee you'll be sitting with the main group. Buddy

I'm good with anything except spinach and my favorite combination is sausage, mushroom, onion, at minimum. Bell peppers, black olives and/or garlic would be good additions to that. I will be happy to share this with others and try anyone else's pizza who's willing to share. If it helps, this was the last official order posted in this thread last year. This was for about 20+ people, though. Pizza #1: Double Cheese on the whole pizza 1/2 Pepperoni Onion Pizza #2: Double Sausage on the whole pizza 1/2 Mixed Bell Peppers Black Olive Banana Pepper (not quite as hot as the jalapeno) Pizza #3: Sausage on the whole pizza Pepperoni on the whole pizza 1/2 Mushroom Pizza #4: Sausage on the whole pizza Mushroom on the whole pizza 1/2 Garlic 1/2 Onion Banana Pepper Pizza #5: Spinach Tomato Mushroom Garlic Light Onion Light Tomato Sauce Pizza #6: Pepperoni Mushroom Garlic Pizza #7: Sausage Pepperoni Mushroom 1/2 Black Olive 1/2 Onion Pizza #8 (irisarbor Pizza, XX-L): Double Cheese Sausage Mixed Bell Peppers (Light Tomato Sauce) MilwFoodlovers Pizza: Sausage Pepperoni Mushroom Onion

I can't emphasize enough that this go around is not a private party. The pizzas listed above were chosen by me as a sort of tasting smorgasbord based on group preferences that were expressed well in advance. My suggestion to anyone wanting to join the group on this trip is to figure out what you and your immediate family/friend wants and order your own pizza through me, through this thread. While I do not wish to speak for the JRPfeff/Pie Diva family, I don't know that they will be interested in sharing their pizzas, or in trying anyone else's. Also, for anyone thinking about joining the group who is not familiar with the process at Burt's, it is absolutely required that I have your full pizza order by 1:00pm this Thursday. Without it, you might not get a pizza; you might not even get seated. If you're casually thinking about joining the party and thinking you might show up on whim, don't. I'm not trying to be mean or discourage people from joining the group, I just want to avoid someone driving a long (or even short) distance and being disappointed when they find out, without the advance order, they will not be accommodated. For anyone seriously considering joining the group, please, please, please, get your order in to me ASAP so we can get a firm head count and pizza order for this Saturday, September 17th. Buddy

CTD is in for 1...requesting an XL sausage, spinach, garlic, mushroom, extra cheese...will have breakfast the next day...I'll be there by 4:15pm for the 4:30pm seating and can hang out until 5:50pm'ish. Small salad with cream garlic and cheesy garlic bread...as it's my first time, I am hoping I did this right... If the schedule changes again, no problemo! I'll keep up with the thread...

After reading Buddy's instructions I'm starting to feel like this is a Seinfeld episode but with pizza instead of soup. If the seating's at 4:30 what time's the eating? JRPfeff Screaming Brad, You just need to bring 11 friends and we could do the private event. Any chance of swinging that? JRChicken I'm pretty sure introducing them to this motley crew would give me 11 new ex-friends...

If you call in for 4:30, we want you to be there at 4:15. The pizza will be on the table at 4:30. Sharp. Whether you're sitting there or not. And yes, it does sound like a certain character from a certain episode of Seinfeld, but if you want to be friends with Burt, you won't mention it. I swear, once you've experienced how smoothly this runs and how quickly your food hits the table, you'll wonder why other places don't operate like this. Really, it's the only way we can avoid ridiculous "Hot Doug's" style lines from forming. The difference though, is instead of getting out a hot dog and fries in a couple of minutes, it takes half an hour to make a pan pizza. If you wait in line 40 minutes to get up to Hot Doug's counter, can you imagine how long you'd be standing in line waiting for one of Burt's pizzas? You have to remember, this is a tiny restaurant that only holds 35 people at the max. There's one 74 year old man making all the pizzas in one oven. There's only so much you can do. The order ahead system makes it possible for us to make as many happy people as possible on any given night. Anyway, I've got CTD's (First timer? Yeah, whatever.) order and I'm eagerly awaiting anyone else who wants to join the group. Buddy

Okay folks, here's a 24 hour reminder: If I don't have a firm commitment by this time Thursday, including a head count and a pizza order, this ain't happening. So far, I've got a table for one for ChiTownDiner. JRPfeff has emailed me privately, but hasn't yet placed an order. I've gotta hear from you by tomorrow folks. Buddy

As of 1:00am Thursday we're looking at 11 in the JRPfeff party, and ChiTownDiner for one. I have orders for all parties, and I'll turn them in tomorrow afternoon. If anyone else wants to join the group, I need an order sometime in the next twelve hours. Buddy

So that's our final count; 12 plus a possible two more (I'll handle the plus two), at 4:30. Please arrive at around 4:15 to be seated and situated, pizza will be served at 4:30 sharp. Separate checks? See you Saturday! Buddy

The orders are in and the tables are set for 13 people on Saturday. Just one small change...4:30 was not available due to prior bookings. So I took the liberty of moving the event to 5:00pm. I figured 30 minutes wasn't going to screw anyone up too much, and this way we can focus on the group without distractions from other annoying customers. New plan: Arrive at 4:45 for garlic bread and salads; pizza on the table at 5:00. See you then, Buddy

We serve a delightful dessert slaw to anyone who cleans their plate. Delicate shreds of green and purple cabbage with accents of sweet carrot tossed in a creamy mayo based dressing, all placed gingerly atop a heaping scoop of chocolate ice cream. Which makes almost as much sense as the ingredients in a Beanie Burger. Buddy P.S. Just to head off any possible uproar, The Gahanna Grill generally makes excellent burgers and other food. The Beanie Burger, IMHO, is an example of wretched excess gone bad. I do not think less of those who enjoy said burger, I just will not be ordering one myself anytime soon. Oh, and I'll also make fun of it every chance I get. B.

The Beanie Burger is, as far as I'm concerned, a one-time thing for people to try. I usually just get a cheeseburger with grilled onions. It's the same size, but minus the slaw (and for me it's also minus any lettuce, tomato and pickle). For those who like bacon on their burgers I suggest the Academy Burger, which is a Swiss cheese burger with grilled onions and bacon. Oh, and I don't want cole slaw on any sandwich, including a hot dog or a pulled pork sandwich. And as far as that goes, I don't care much for the slaw at the Gahanna Grill -- even as a side.

Don't tell me, tell wanderingjew on his own thread. I'm with you on this one Michael, at least as far as the slaw goes. I still like the tomato, grilled onions, and pickle on my burger. The slaw just makes it all slosh around into a big unnecessary mess. Buddy
