Not a bad idea, as I also have a pretty bad memory for names. I don't have a problem with nametags; last fall I spent a weekend wandering around Buffalo and Rochester with one on.

If my nametag said "Carolina Bob - Roadfood Legend" on it, I'd want to wear one, too.

I plan on going....

With possibly 24+ people on board, are we still going to do a scavenger hunt? Or several? 

Perhaps two or three groups can form--one doing a scavenger hunt, one going to sit-down places, and another doing a combo of the two.

Or one group can do a combo of American and ethnic fare, while another does all ethnic....?

If we decide (or if a subgroup decides) to opt for more conventional formats,we could look into a restaurant on State that might be able to accommodate a large group or two large groups. But I don't know what places there would qualify....

Maybe there's a place on State Street with a lot of seating and with a Sunday buffet....?

Sounds like The Contingent could well become a Flash Mob!

I gave this some more thought, and think your everyone can do their own thing idea will work out best. 

Each of us should choose 2 or 3 places where we want to eat from the list.  We can then group up based on preferences and work our way down State Street doing some sit down dining, some carry-out.

If some people want to scatter and do a scavenger hunt, that's fine too.  We can try to regroup at around 3:00 on the Library Mall and then head to the Union for ice cream and to share our experiences before moving on to our next stop.

Just FYI - Wunderground says Madison'll be around 70 degrees, with a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms, so bring your umbrellas and wellies!

If it's raining, I'm curling up to some soul food or BBQ or that fried chicken, and skipping any scavenger hunt...

so we will stay over Sat nite at the Hampton Inn in Madison (East Towne Mall)
I don't yet know what time we will be in Madison, after said Moose festival,

Kathy's working but I don't have any plans.  I don't know how Roadfoody it is but I've had a couple of decent meals at Erin's Snug, which isn't too far from where you're staying.  And if you feel like going the other direction down E. Washington Ave. there's the Prime Quarter if you like the grill-your-own places, and heading even more toward the Capitol will give you lots of other alternatives, too.

We actually had a nice B&B booked in APPPLETON, until we realized it was 90 min in the WRONG direction....
So we tried to book at the Speckled Hen and the Ruby Marie but both were full.
I couldn't quite stomach the price or the eco-consciousness of the Arbor House....
 
so we went for the Hilton points....

We'll be at Fat Jack's on Sunday.  You may want to contact yellowdeere.  They will be staying in Madison Saturday night and will be dining at The Bayou.

Your hotel is very close to our Sunday starting point, you get to sleep in! 

The current itinerary looks like this.

11:30 - Pan & Pan, for those who can get there early and want to try a Mexican bakery/taqueria.  We can enjoy the Madison A to Z experience with Nichole & JM.

12:30 - Leave Pan & Pan/Woodman's and travel to State Street, I mapped a route via Williamson Street which is more interesting than East Washington Ave.  Unfortunately, I believe the Corner Store is closed Sundays.

13:00 - Park at the Capitol - State St. Ramp - Lot 8 on this map - Madison parking downtown map. Congregate on State Street side of Capitol following tour.  We will also park some vehicles on the University end of State Street to ferry people back to their cars following this portion of the tour.

13:00 - 15:30 - Wander down State Street.  Stop to sit & eat at restaurants of your choice (see list), and end at the Daily Scoop Deli for ice cream.  You can also grab and share stuff to eat on the street as the group travels from Capitol to university - this is the scavenger hunt.

Wow, you would have been my neighbor for a night, had you stayed at the Speckled Hen. I am just a couple houses away. It's a lovely place, the Hen that is - my house is just meh.
 
Have fun ya'll! I won't be able to do this one, but I am excited to hear about some of the places you are visiting, as I haven't been to a number of them.

FYI, there's a rather large construction project on John Nolen Drive in full swing right now.  Anyone thinking about taking it to get downtown (Yellodeere going to The Bayou, for example) might want to consider an alternate route or at least allow extra travel time.

My mom lives on Henry and Main so we will probably walk up to the Capitol at State from there. She also has a large Dane County Parking lot across the street from her dwelling so if your lot is full, there'll be plenty of parking there on Henry.
Irisarbor, if you didn't want to dine in New Glarus or Monroe (not all the far from Madison) I'd recommend Bandung Indonesian since your family seems to enjoy Asian foods. It's a bit different, yet still sort of familar.
