We were at Difara's and were not that impressed. Besides the fact we waited 1.5 hours in line for it and they could not have hustle or cared any less. It was decent but no Lombardis' (who took ten minutes after a 5 minute wait to be seated and was the best pizza we ever had). I really wanted to like Difara's as an Eatingteam member is from Brooklyn and told us to go there. When service is that bad it is very hard to stay objective about it. We ran into the same problem with Taconelli's in Philadelphia. We tried there twice and both times no less than three hours to get our food...
Completely understandable...
I just took two friends to Di Fara's tonight for their first time, and it took us more than an hour and a half to get our pie with half sausage (with the topping making it, what we thought, unique enough to send through without being compromised for their "efficiency" quip that they have posted on the wall). The one guy liked it better than Lombardi's, like myself (I'm not a big fan of them, to be honest, but I'll try them again, I'm sure), despite the wait. The other, not so. It is just tough to give it a fair go when the wait is that long, and I felt it tonight. The sausage wasn't great (rather bland), and I must say, after finally getting a plain slice, that the square is much better (even if it does take longer to make). The woman would correct Dom to get him to keep to the order queue, but he couldn't/wouldn't.
They are inefficient, despite my love for them. To be fair, though, and this is the second time I've been there, the crowd who just want slices are some of the nastiest bunch of people I've run into in *ANY* pizza joint. The wait makes them worse, it seems. No mind to who's in line. No attention to those waiting on whole plain pies. They complain. They shove. No apologies. Every man for himself. Little kids, who aren't naturally wont for their patience, are a real doozie if they're not of a pleasant demeanor. I can see why they try to get "slice pies" out like they do, despite order placement...just feed 'em and get out!
But even if the disorder pissed off thousands of customers to the point of a no-return, New York is a city of millions...and they love pizza...
I'm hoping to try New Park this weekend.
