I go to BK once every several years just to remember why I don't go there.  Last time was a few weeks ago in appreciation for their doing away with the "creepy King".  The Whopper was as dry as a bone (maybe that lean equine protein explains that), but the chemical-laden shake topped with whipped fat was truly tasty.

The article seems to deal only with Burger King restaurants in the United Kingdom.  Regardless, I never eat there anymore, even stateside restaurants.

Ah, poor people. Horsemeat is delicious, and it's never dry. I take that last back. When my mother cooked it dry didn't cover what it was like.

I read a summary of media coverage of this in The Week magazine, and they said that the issue isn't horsemeat per se as much as it is the source of this horsemeat, which seems to be primarily from Eastern Europe, particularly Romania, and involves old cart horses that are no longer allowed to be used on the country's roads and are being slaughtered as a result.  In other words, unlike the case in France, the source of this horsemeat isn't horses raised for meat.  Apparently there is also the risk of exposure to various chemicals injected into the horses which wouldn't be used in horses raised for meat.

I have no independent knowledge of any of this, but it makes sense.

not a fan either. i live in a small town so food is limited. the BK has been here about 7 years and i've been 3 times. really sucks and i agree about the creepy king.

I personally have no knowledge of horsemeat but when I was in Paris, I noticed that most all food markets sold all cuts of meat.  I have never sampled horse but i really wonder if you would noticed the difference with it vs. beef?

I actually ate quite a bit of horse when I lived in France.  It was better by far to their beef at that time (late 70's).

When I was a teenager, we used to go to a place in Willow Grove PA for cheesesteaks.  They were great!
Later the place was closed for selling horsemeat

I was pretty young back then, but I do remember my father making Rex tartare using the backstraps. As I recall, he wasn't able to make it often because the yolks from the pterodactyl eggs took a long time to cook, and hanging around a fire for a long time tended to be a little dangerous.

Michael, I went to a restaurant one time in Mexico, the fish and chips they served were great. I looked at the tartar sauce, it had chopped hard boiled egg in it. I wanted to go back into the kitchen and show them how to make it right. I told my wife, next time we bring our own.................pnwc.......p.s. happy to see you and Lisa had fun in Bama.............pnwc

Bill, we had a blast. The only bad thing about the trip is that as a result of the ribs and pulled pork at he Brick Pit lleechef refuses to eat at our local barbeque place any longer.

Compared to The Brick Pit, our local BBQ is NOT BBQ.  I'd rather eat horsemeat!

Lisa & Michael, I agree once you have had the best, it's hard to go to anything else. I took Joyce and Mollie to Peter Lugers last summer, they loved it, a real great steak and a real NYC restaurant experience. Well, there is no way to match it, so I asked both of them if they would like to make a side trip to NYC this summer so we could go back to Peter Lugers, they both yelled, YES.............it's not easy having your favorite steak house 3000 miles from home..............Bill

Bill, you're probably right.  Yesterday we passed Graeter's and he said, "Want to stop for ice cream?"  Which translated means, "I want to stop for ice cream."  He even left out the "I love you" part.  But it really was too cold.  But I'm NEVER turning down BBQ from The Brick Pit!!!
