The Great American Songbook ... Mon, 01/3/11 6:27 PM (permalink)
Mel Torme ... Bobby Darrin ... Vic Damone ... Steve & Edie ... Al Martino ...

I have a friend who's part of  a foundation dedicated to the "Great American Songbook" ... they just launched a free, hi-def, streaming music site dedicated to the classics.

I think there are many RF'rs who might enjoy having this either in the background (or foreground) ...

I don't know if  I was listening to it or not, but for the last hour I have been writing to family members with good music playing in the background.

Saw Torme live twice. What a performer. What a great guy.

Friar McKee----saw Torme with George Shearing and Gerry Mulligan
at the Jones Beach AmphiTheater----super show ---3 great artists
---they could have played all night and no one would have gone home.  Terrific. Torme was a very interesting and complex guy.

Ancient one: With George Shearing and Stan Getz in my case. Very entertaining evening, particularly since Getz was in a really bad mood during his half of the program.

Went backstage after, and Torme couldn't have been more pleasant and gracious. One of the finest "backstage" experiences of my life.
