The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY

I just went upstate from NYC to visit family a week and a half ago. We went to the fair last Monday and caught the Amtrak right from the fairgrounds. We made it to the Gianelli Sausage/Dinosaur Barbque booth for lunch. The rib platter was great: smoky, tender, a little chew to them, with a nice amount of sauce cooked on to them. the sausage was great too, although I wish I had gotten the hot instead of the sweet. I have pics, but how do I paste them on to my topic message?

GREAT PICS!!!! I don't get to The Fair anymore, since I'm out-of-state now, but I do miss it. Anyone know what the butter sculpture was this year?

Great pix...I also was at the fair this past weekend. I actually went to the Dinosaur restaurant for the first time. Food was actually pretty good, especially the ribs, brisket,BBQ beans and cole slaw. I also had breakfast at the Little Gem diner on the west side. What a dump! Food was good though. Sorry I don't have any pix to show, I was too busy eating my way through the weekend. Went out to Turning Stone Casino in Verona, for the all you can eat Int'l Buffet. Last but not least, before I hit the highway I stopped to fill up my cooler with Hoffmanns Snappys and got a few loaves of eye-talian bread from Columbus Bakery. Time to go back on a diet!!! Mike

Mike Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I think that Dinosaur BBQ can match up to any there is, and their side dishes are the best. As far as Little Gem Diner, in my humble opion it is a diner and not a dump! And the food is great. The one place where I think the food is really quite poor is at the Turning Stone Casino. Years ago, they had a great chef but it tastes like hospital food to me now.

I like Little Gem a lot, but also Serpico's on the North Side is a fantastic diner on the north side.

Hey Scorereader, no Grandma Browns at Dino's, but I did pack a few cans of them in my bag to take back to the city! Think I'll bake 'em with mustard, brown sugar, and bacon. Just like home!

I misread the sign. I didn't realize that was the Dinosaur BBQ tent. I love their beans! I always get 'em as a side and the jumbalaya when it's the special. I think it's great tnat you can still get 25 cent milks and a free potato.
