It would appear to me that when you are at events, facilities are available. When you are not at events, it also appears to me that a search and destroy is in effect Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

ANOTHER QUESTION.... when you are working the carts/trailers.... where do you do your doo?? I'm sure the question is a bit silly, but does this pose problems??? As Chicago Style Dog always says, secure a location near facilities! Something you plan ahead...

CSD If you find a location that allows that it is great but they are VERY far and few in between. Most have to work all week. You lucked into a good thing but it is not a reality for most.

CowboyBob and CSD both had the luck of finding good sites... Can imagine how many hours of research (after a long day at work) it took to secure such good locations! Here's to a very busy year for all the vendors out there...

CSD CSD I think you are talking about the place in Allen Texas and they wont let anyone sell there. They have a food court.

Ohman, I just realized you moved from MA to TX. Outdoor malls with food courts allow carts as long as they don't duplicate items sold at their food court. I know of one cart vending hot dogs on the weekends at one of their west coast outlets. His cart can't be near the food court. If the mall manager won't allow a cart, talk to their foodservice manager at the corporate level. Some local managers are unaware that the corporation is always interested in renters, even if it's a small piece of the sidewalk. They're two other locations in Texas owned by a different company: Hillsboro and San Marcos. Hope this helps. Best of luck. CSD

quote:Originally posted by jojobeans Funny you should ask. I just developed a program using Micro Soft Excel that tells me by item and by over all sales what the margin is. I use an average cost comparison of each item category sold for example all brands of Hot Dog; Sabrett's, Hebrew national, Nathan’s, Oscar Mayer and Ball Park and use the average. Then I calculate the average price for all condiments using a one (1) oz. serving. The same goes for chips and beverages. I then have another sheet where I put things like Insurance, rent licenses, transportation, repairs and just about any thing else you will come up against, Oh even straws and napkins to. When scoping out a potential location I find out how many people WALK by where I will set up my cart and use a 1% capture for sales, plug in that number and it tells me how much I will gross and net. I am going to test the accuracy of it starting Oct the 20th or there about. What I also like about my program is I can put in what I will charge for each item to see the margin before I actually start selling the item to see what I will make on it. jojobeans
