Hmmm. Maybe I'm dense, but I would have titled that "The Importance of Learning German When Navigating German Waters".

Yes BT perhaps you are dense......... at least when it come to a subject you know little about........ but still feel compelled to make a feeble comment. You see old man in the world of International travel and radio communication the common language is English. All position reports and most importantly all Maydays world wide are made in English. It would be a sad day when a German Coast Guard radio operator did not understand a distress call "Mayday" coming in loud and clear in English................ "German need not be spoken here"

"German need not be spoken here" Frank, I know all that. Sheeesh. I not only grew up in boats on the Chesapeake, I've just about circled the world on ships (much of it on the bridge where I doubt you spent a lot of time). But if I were sinking I don't think I'd be a stickler for protocol and tradition. I think I'd try the local language as well just in case. And that seemed to me to be the point of the humor (of course I realize you are humor challenged--ask your wife).

LMFAO, Slick, FYI Sophomore and Junior high school students are pursueing Arabic as a second language in place of Hispanic. Seems there is an overload of those interpretors. Copper
