The Louisiana Roadfood Festival - Official Announcement

Stephen Rushmore and the Sterns are very pleased to present... The greatest Roadfood blow-out ever! The best food from of Louisiana's best eateries, all available in the heart of the French Quarter, as part of a festival celebrating the state's unique culinary trails. Brass bands will play, authors and personalities from radio and TV will discuss and debate regional food, and on Saturday a second line will party its way from the World's Longest Oyster Po Boy to food vendors stationed along three city blocks: edible ecstasy! The Saturday night fais-do-do, made available to members of Roadfood.com, is, for now, sold out, but anyone who comes to New Orleans for this event definitely will not go away hungry! Free admission to everything (except the crawfish and shrimp boil). Go to the festival web site for more information - http://www.LouisianaRoadfoodFestival.com

Update: We have secured a very special rate at the Hotel Monteleone, which will be at the center of street festival and only a block away from the shrimp/crawfish boil departure point. Rooms are $169/night for AAA four diamond experience. Only a limited number of rooms are available, so be sure to book ASAP. Call 1-800-217-2033 and ask for the "Roadfood Group" block.

They should be available for three days before and after the weekend.

Just a minor nitpick, but Cafe Reconcile is not (as stated in the most recent e-mail newsletter) located in Central City. It is technically in the Lower Garden District. It is located one block behind St. Charles Avenue, which is the heart of Uptown, Garden District. I really wish I could attend. I was considering sneaking away for a long weekend. I still may. I've been away from New Orleans too long already.

ChiTownDiner Stephen - Thanks again for coordinating this...we are all set and looking forward to joining Sundancer and Company! ChiTown: Thanks for the thought. Looking forward to being with you also and enjoying NOLA. I have spent many months there and I know my way around very well. I certainly look forward to what Stephen has described as great food in the heart of the French Quarter. I am driving down and will enjoy the entire trip. Paul E. Smith knoxville, TN

Hotel Monteleone has a truly unique and excellent bar that must be checked out - The Carousel Bar & Lounge. Established in 1946, it's made from an actual carousel, and it really does revolve. It's a piano bar, and a place to have actual cocktails - not a beer-and-a-shot type of place.

Just made my reservations for Fri/Sat/Sun. The hotel strongly recommends AGAINST driving in due to limited parking. Any ideas where to park near the hotel. I want to do an official Roadtrip going to and coming from NOLA. By the way, the hotel looks FANTASTIC!

I want to do an official Roadtrip going to and coming from NOLA. By the way, the hotel looks FANTASTIC! IIRC, there is a pay lot next to the hotel. I think it's still there, anyway. Things have changed a bit since Katrina. There are a couple parking garages and another pay lot within a few blocks. Some street parking may be available, if you're lucky. However, unless you empty your car of valuables, I recommend against an open lot or the street. Even then, nothing's certain. NOLA loves giving out parking tickets and towing vehicles. It's a nice chunk of revenue for the city.

Keep in mind, the street festival will be right near the hotel, so I wouldn't advise parking in that part of the French quarter. Street parking will not be possible on Royal Street for the entire weekend.

If you do find a parking garage you're comfortable with that's not nearby, remember that cabs are cheap and easy to get, so if you don't mind cabbing it to and from the hotel, that's a possibility.

I beleive hotel parking is $32.00 per day, valet, pre-reserved due to limited capacity and allows for unlimited in and outs.

Stephen - With the additional tickets becoming available, the homepage byline under Update mentions "Friday" as the night for the Crawfish and Shrimp Boil. This may be an error...

X1 - at Polonez yesterday, you were telling me about a hotel in downtown NOLA that charges an affordable rate, but I forgot to get the details before you left. Can you fill me in? Many thanks. Bob

Question on the tickets - will they be mailed or are we "on a list" to get on the bus?

Today Louis declares he wants to do a RF trip. A bit late for this, but let us know if there are any plans for the SouthEast, or Saint Louis. Actually St Louis is not a bad idea. Any ideas there?
