The New KFC Grilled Chicken " Ugh "

My wife & I decided to try the new Grilled Chicken @ KFC,here in B`ham. & we ended up giving it to our cats,after a few bites,& they wouldnt even touch it! Just the nastiest stuff I`ve had the misfortune to try & eat.Tough,not cooked done enough,juice squirting out,it was something you might find in a Third World country.I wonder how other members,who`ve tried it, feel about this.
 Knowing how Col Sanders cared about his products, & the strict standards he had for his Franchisee`s; I have to believe he would be pretty P/O.............

Mine was dry and overcooked.

As you can see, there seems to be a lot of store-to-store- and day-to-day same store variation with this product. It requires the restaurant to purchase a new piece of cooking machinery.

You know I had the regular original recipe the other week, sort of overdone and it was REALLY good. 

They don't seem to sell it here in Canada, they've been heavily promoting ribs here at the minute.

Didnt care for it all.Can do much better on my grill.

I think the grilled chicken is just like any other FF item.  If you get it fresh, it's pretty good.  If it's been under a warmer for a while it's a little dried out.

I didn't care for it.  It tasted oddly ungrilled for being called grilled.

I had read that yjere is powdred beef bullion in the seasoning.

lol They don't look too appetizing, covered in a thick layer of slimy looking sauce.

They (kfc) marketed BBQ ribs and chicken here in Indiana back in the early 80's. The were heavily soaked in a sticky sweet BBQ sauce that was impossible to eat in a car without destroying the whole interior. Napkins desinegrated when they touched the sauce. The 'wet-naps' did also. If you 'Had' to have them, the only way to do it was eat inside and have running hot water and Comet Cleanser handy !!
 
They tested them for about a year...I tried them a couple of times  and decided they were not very good.

War Toad - That's because.......I just read that they have these grill racks that they place in their convection ovens to make the "grill marks" on the chicken.  The chicken is done in the oven and not on a grill.
 
It was a story in the business section of the Orlando Sentinel.  The criticism came from El Pollo Loco?  A competitor albeit a tiny one.  KCF has 5200 locations throughout the world.  The spokesman for KFC did not deny the story of their using racks inside ovens to get the grill marks.
 
Ever try Pollo Tropical?  My wife loves it; I don't!  They have a few up north or they use to in Chicago, NYC, etc.  Maybe not any more?

el pollo loco is fantastic, if you're ever in southern california or nevada it's a must have like in-and-out burger.....
 
 el pollo loco's chicken is miles above kfc grilled..... and everything else on their menu also rocks :) i only wish they were up here in the northwest...
 
 the only decent chicken up here is church's and popeye's, and the occasional broaster dealer... but as far as non-fried chicken goes, it's kfc or grill your own...... or costco rotisserie at $5.99 per bird :)

I figured that they had some kind of device.  I had guessed a thing like a panini press.  I sure didn't think that they had employees standing over a fire with tongs.
 
What don't you like about Pollo Tropical?  They started here in Miami 21 years ago, and there's one a half-mile away on US-1, but I have never been in one. 
 
We picked up some chicken to go at Pollo Campero http://www.campero.com/index_eng_flash.php  the other month, and it was pretty good.  I'd read about them in the business section once, and was curious.  It's a chain from Honduras, IIRC.   They built their restaurant using the shell of a defunct Pizza Hut, right next door to Pollo Tropical.  I'll bet the PT owners just loved that.

Well, that would explain a thing or two.  I'll stick to the original product line.

KFC grilled chicken? Not in this lifetime or the next!       

David - The beef seasoning issue was also in the article!  The spokesperson for KFC acknowledged that, too.

MD - I'm not big on Cuban food.  If you like black beans and rice, the fried plantains, yucca, etc. then I'd say try it.  Yes, in Miami, it's a big success.  Puerto Rico, too.  I thought the chicken was dry..Just did not care for it.  Had it several times.
