The New Lobster Roll -- ROFLMAO, And Crying

Forget about going to New England for a lobster roll. Now you can get one, for a limited time, at any of the Uno chain places. I can't wait. I love lobster salads with lettuce and stuff on buns. From the Menu: Lobster Roll Our version is served with shredded lettuce, bacon and tarragon mayonnaise. Available traditional New England style - mayo and shredded lettuce. Sounds scary, but I actually had the Lobster Mac and Cheese a few weeks ago and it was really, really good. Way too much food for one person, but the lobster wasn't rubbery like I suspected it might be. I'm sure I blew about 1,000 + calories on that meal though. Mac and cheese, lobster pieces, buttered bread crumbs on top...gooey and not bad.

UNO is trying to emerge from bankruptcy. They need your support! I would try one if we had a UNO around here and it cost $8 or less.

Well, at $16.99 for lobster smothered in mayonaise, I do not believe this is going to help their cause.

people who don't have acess to fresh New England lobster rolls will order them & say they're great if they've never had an original. will I try one? NO. I've never eaten in an Unos in my life & I'm not starting now. at least they're using a New England hot dog roll.

We had the Lobster Mac and Cheese recently and found the lobster rubbery and unpleasant. Apparently it varies from meal to meal.

We had been discussing the new NYC fascination with the lobster roll - and some of the more unique places to acquire one (story to follow). http://www.nypost.com/p/l...SkPnlkaSBFDvJXg5dDOo0H Yes, the New York Post (New York's hometown version of the Weekly World News, for those not in the know) picked the 10 "best lobster rolls" and chose to include - among other things - sushi, lobster mac and cheese and some bizarre club sandwich-like thing. They also seem high on Luke's and Red Hook, which seem like a no-brainer, to me.

In my opinion, this is the very worst "best Ten List" that I have ever read. Thank goodness for the states of Connecticut and Maine.

I don't think that they were ALL salads. I am pretty sure that you can get either hot or cold rolls at both Luke's and Red Hook.

Ok, so not technically a lobster roll, but what's wrong with a good lobster or seafood salad sandwich. I love 'em! Of course I have what some would consider an unhealthy obsession with mayo.

Wintem01 Ok, so not technically a lobster roll, but what's wrong with a good lobster or seafood salad sandwich. I love 'em! Of course I have what some would consider an unhealthy obsession with mayo. Well first, a lobster roll is made with a roll. That's why they call it a lobster roll. Second, a lobster salad is one thing and a seafood salad is another. And if you put either one on a bun, or roll, it's a lobster salad or seafood salad on a bun.

How you could have 10 best in NYC and not include Pearl Oyster Bar's Lobster Roll is COMPLETELY beyond me....

Ok, all I'm saying is that there is room for maybe a different kind of sandwich that is the bomb. I would love a lobster salad sandwich. Or shrimp salad or a mixture. Bring it, I'm in Ohio for God's sake.

I'm in Ohio, too. I make lobster rolls right here in Gahanna, Ohio. All it takes is a lobster, butter and New England-style hot dog buns.

Not on your life. Fact is, I never heard of clam strips till after I left Connecticut. I was in Houston, and driving somewhere when I saw a Howard Johnson's in Bellaire. I hung a U-turn, pulled in and ordered a couple of hot dogs, and some fried clams. When they brought the clams I was dumbfounded -- I'd never seen anything like those things before. It turned out they were clam strips.

The Panera Bread chain is offering same -- $17 each. I live in VA, but no, I haven't tried it; I'll make the trip to The Cove, near Mystic, CT, or Arnold's in Eastham, Cape Cod, MA. Looks like a lot of (chiabatta, no less) bread. Michael Hoffman Forget about going to New England for a lobster roll. Now you can get one, for a limited time, at any of the Uno chain places. I usually avoid the debates over the make-up of a sandwich etc...as they tend to turn into unsolveable arguments...but TO me, A SoCal resident who lived his college years in Eastern Mass. working at a Howard johnson's, a Lobster Roll was described as Hot Buttered Lobster Chunks stuffed into a grilled/toasted New England-style Hot Dog Roll (Top-Split). A Cold Lobster Roll was made of Lobster chunks (cold) stuffed into an un-toasted New England style Hot Dog Roll. The roll may have some Mayo spread on the inside to help 'glue' the lobster in place. This was NOT on the Hojo Menu, but would be 'special-made' for customers who requested this version. A Lobster-Salad Roll was the same portion of Lobster, chopped up a bit more than the original 'chunks', mixed with Mayo and chopped Lettuce then spooned into a grilled Hot Dog Roll. BTW the Lobster portion was 4oz in all versions of the HoJo menu item. Garnish was a bit of Paprika to add a little color on the salad version.
