The Official Florida Roadfood Meetup!

You are officially invited to the "2005 Florida Roadfood Meetup!" Come out and meet those intriguing people you know only from the Roadfood.com web forums - and enjoy some local grub at the same time! We'll be meeting up for supper on Friday, February 4 and again for lunch on Sunday, February 6. The meeting places have yet to be finalized, but it is looking as though our supper meet might be at El Cap in St Petersburg, and our lunch meet (pardon the pun) at Ted Peters' in South Pasadena.

Please e-mail me with an RSVP if you would like more details or if you are certain you can make it! We'd love to meet you and gang up for some good food, conversation, and maybe even some photos for our other Roadfood buddies to enjoy! Hope to hear from you soon!

Kristi - Man o'Man do I wish we could make that, but we won't be down south until Spring. Who knows, maybe we can meet up then - we're staying near Fort Myers. Sue

Just a little reminder to those Floridians that I haven't heard from, if you think you can make it, please let me know. This will be a lot of fun! Beer & burgers at one of the most storied places in Tampa Bay; and then freshly smoked fish and fries for lunch (and more beer is optional)...

Dang, Rib, I'd love to be with you folks, but the timing's not good. Enjoy your tour and the food. I won't be getting down that way until First of May.

First of all, the weather looks in our favor for both days...Friday is supposed to be about 49 degrees and clear...Sunday, mostly sunny, and a wonderful 68.

We will meet at El Cap, the famous hamburger joint, on Friday, 2/4 at approx. 7pm...El Cap is located at 3500 4th St N St Petersburg. (727) 521-1314/ Cross Street: Near intersection of 35th Ave N and 4th St N; restaurant is on the west side of the street. Look for the old neon sign. They accept credit cards for payment.

On Sunday, 2/6, we meet at Ted Peters Smoked Fish, for lunch at noon. It's at 1305 Pasadena Ave S, South Pasadena. Phone 381-7391. Follow the smell of smoking fish. Be forewarned, they only accept cash as payment.

Alternate plan: Sometimes things don't always go to plan. (Whose law is that???) If for some reason one of the above places we are to meet at suddenly gets sucked into a vortex, goes out of business, or some other disaster, our backup place to meet would be Habana Cafe, 5402 Gulfport Blvd., Gulfport.)

Kristi and All: We'll be at both fine restaurants and look forward to meeting with all of you. I'm at a borrowed computer, but you can contact me at bob3homes@optonline.net or at 914 277 4390 for the next two weeks.

Since we've been here in St Pete wev'e visited the Crab Shack, Rich's Hot dogs, Cafe Berlin, Philthy Phils, Woodys, Lucky Dill,ElCap, Mid Peninsula Seafood, and some more. And we are headed for The Butler's BBQ as soon as I get off this machine.

    Cheers, John

Too bad you did not come over to Lakeland this past weekend. I was cooking with my teammates at the Lakeland Pig Festival which is a KCBS sanctioned contest.

    See you this weekend.

Ribdog: I cought Montezuma's revnenge on Friday, and am just now fully recovered from the ailment.
I saw notice in the local papers about the Lakeland evnt and thought you might be there, but even if I had been well I could not have gotten away to Lakeland. I mentioned your name at Mid Peninsula and they speak very well of you - although it got me nothing extra from the house. But I'm not complaining because we had a very nice lunch there. We had takeout from Butler's BBQ last night- it was very good and it's only a few blocks from where we are staying. Some roadfooder in St Pete recomemnded Little Italy in Disston Plaza. We had business there today so tried it out and it is worth a detour- the thin crust pizza was very good- and they do a hell of a big lunch business. Hope to see you Friday at El Cap...

    Cheers, John

Yes, I will be at El Cap but not at Ted Peters. My wife commited me to making ribs for everyone at the Super Bowl party we are going to so I will hard at work on my smoker on Sunday. See you on Friday.

Sorry my name did not help at Peninsula.

That Roadfooder may have been me! I've been going there for 15 years and am addicted to their thin-crust pizza. The nice thing about the place is that it's always been owned by the same folks, so the consistency remains the same year after year, which is a good thing.

    See you guys!
