Zippy the Pinhead is a longtime comic strip that started back in the 60s, and is often carried by alternative newspapers. he has a Website:

http://www.zippythepinhead.com/

Zippy's a "pinheaded" guy in a muu-muu clown getup, that, among other things, loves diners, road statues like the Big Boy and muffler men, and road food.

In today strip (9/19/2006--look it up on the website starting on 9/20/06), Zippy pontificates: "Jane and Michael Stern are my copilots, Zerbrina." [his wife]."I totally trust Jane and Michael Stern in all matters gastrointestinal." And it goes on...

I loved it, especially the title, "Stern Behavior."

Zippy (and Griffy) frequently appear in Roadfood-approved haunts. I think he's one of us.

Zippy is one of us, and so is Griffy. I can't wait to see what Bill Griffith comes up with about the O'Rourkes Diner fire, it was one of his favorite diners.

The Zippy comic strip character is based on the real life circus sideshow perfomer Simon Metz (1892-1976) who went by the stage name "Schlitzie."

A google.com search will yield many online links with Schlitzie info.

What an honor. Zippy regularly honors diners and great roadside art. I guess that now Jane and Michael will be added to the pantheon.

                  Congrats!

Schlitzie was one of the 'stars' of the classic 1932 horror flick, FREAKS....

Question is - "Are they having fun yet?"

This is so exciting! I used to be an Illustrator in a previous life and love Bill Griffith's unique style of drawing.

I have always enjoyed reading Zippy. I don't always get it, but I enjoy reading it. And doesn't being a Jane & Michael fan just show good taste?
