We stopped at the Swedish Inn yesterday while driving home from our cabin. We passed this little cafe many times in the past, either we had eaten somewhere else or opted to go to the Scandinavian Bakery just down the street!

I was quite happy with the Rachel that I ordered. I noticed it was made with "real" turkey and not loaf. It came with homemade fries and lots of 'em! At $5.99 it was pretty reasonable.

Hubby opted for the Turkey Dinner since he worked up quite an appetite doing yard work earlier in the day. (I mostly manned the fire pit!) The Turkey Dinner came with unlimited trips to the Salad Bar which featured Split Pea Soup. He ate two bowls of Split Pea and a modest salad before his dinner arrived. The homemade toast alone was enough to make me wish I had ordered the same! The mashed potatoes were definitely homemade and the portions were quite generous. Rounding out the meal was stuffing & a small serving of canned cranberries (hubbies favorite). At $6.99 this was definately a winner!

    Neesie,

Nice looking plate! I don't know if I could handle all the pepper though!

      Neesie,
When you mentioned "real" turkey it brought to mind when I used to deliver up in the MSP area. I stopped at Stockmans truck stop in St. Paul and saw a turkey and swiss omelet on the menu. Well, being a turkey lover and not usually seeing it on a breakfast menu, I ordered it and by God it was real, big, fat, chunks of roasted turkey. That became my St. Paul meal. Thanks for the thread and the memory. The pic is awesome too. I should change my name to Drools Verne.

Any place that serves turkey dinner is aces in my book! That looks delicious and at such a low price too! Oh, that homemade toast and I love that he put all that pepper on there. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the interest in my post. Yes, hubby does love his pepper. When he eats mac n cheese it is peppered up like that also. Frankman, I haven't been to Stockman's (South St. Paul) in ages. I'm north of the Twin Cities. But I always hear good things about it.

I am so glad this place turned out to be a gem. With it's tacky Scandinavian decor (a Velkommen sign on the door for starters) I never had much interest in stopping. But then again tacky decor can be the hallmark of a roadfood gem, can't it?

We were there on the third of July. The town lets the Fourth of July business go to neighboring towns, they are gearing up for Karl Oskar days this weekend...go figure!

As an after thought I thought I'd add this picture of my Rachel sandwich as well.

It cost $5.99, dressing served on the side and came with a mountain of homemade fries.

The Swedish Inn is located right on the Main Street (Highway 8) in Lindstrom, surrounded by antique stores, local bars, the Lindstrom Bakery, a meat market and many other shops in a vibrant small town community. The restaurant has over a dozen booths and several tables and also has a nice little pie dessert menu which we didn't try. Prices for pie by the slice were running about 2.95.

I'm assuming based on the name ( I would hope) that they offer Scandinavian food too.

                yah, youbetcha!

I want to stop in for breakfast some weekend morning. I used to get Scandinavian pancakes in town and want to see if how these would "stack up" pardon the pun!

A childhood friends Swedish mother used to make us something called "skavaars". It was a very thin Swedish pancake (much like a French crepe), buttered and rolled up and smothered in syrup. Can anything taste as good as it does in your memory, though?
