This is for a lb. of 25-30 count shrimp
Cook shrimp in crab boil, peel and devain
Your going to marinate this 2 DAYS
Lots of crushed garlic, a whole head
1bay leaf
dried red pepper to taste
1 1/2 cups olive oil
3/4 cup white vinegar
1 jar capers with juice
3 teaspoons celery seed
10 or so drops Tabasco
chopped onions big enough for a toothpick
salt pepper
mix it all together,  put in a Ziploc, turn and gently shake bag every 8 hrs , keep it laying flat in the fridge. after 2 days pour into bowl don't drain marinade, toothpick an onion slice and a Shrimp, insert in mouth, move jaws up and down careful to get teeth involved, and try to pretend your not in Heaven!

Huh? Is this a gringo version of Cheviche? Considering the amount of vinegar and the vinegar in the capers, you probably don't even need to pre-boil the shrimp. The acid will "cook" the shrimp. Lime juice works great too.

THis is very similar to drunken shrimp we sometimes eat here in south Louisiana.  Boil the shrimp for only about 2 minutes, remove from boil into a bowl, add a can or two of beer, a 1/2 cup of vinegar, onion slices, lemons cut in half, and additional seasonings (herbs, etc.)

Let sit until cool and place in fridge.  Eat the next day.  Very good.

Thanks for the heads up Dawn, I' ve only made this maybe 250 times and BTW vinegar is not used, ever by itself, to make Cerviche, lime and lemon juice, si, vinegar, non, some styles of Cerviche call for some vinegar. Vinegar you get in the store has about 5% acidity, flavors and helps to marinate, does no cooking.

Seems to me some ultra opinionated Cubana has been on a somewhat anti gringo rant lately would suggest a monitor settle her down or knock back a couple of mojitos and chill out!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes Dawn I can speak somewhat from a proper perspective--- have been married to a Pedro Pan Cubana for 20 years. Chill and be well.

Sounds good CTF. I'll give it a try at our next BBQ.

I'm not clear on a point. Do the Chopped Onions go in the Ziploc with the other stuff for 2 days or are they separate?

They go in the ziploc but get speared on the toothpick with the Shrimp.

Al, where exactly in the store, I've never seen that in our Costco, we do have lime marinated shrimp which I got a pint of yesterday, is that what your talking about? I got to get my Costco fix at least once a week! Got a boneless leg of Lamb marinating for the grill, for tomorrow night!

It was labeled Shrimp Cerviche, and located in the refrigerated open deli counter where they have the chicken salad, ready-to-bake Pizza, chicken pies, various entree servings  and shrimp-party trays. It does have lemon and lime juices as well as a long list of other fruit and veggie contents, but by looks the plastic 'cup' is more than 95% peeled shrimp.

That would be what I would do with some tasteless Shrimp But I prefer to taste The sweetness of the Shrimp and not all that other Crap.

                            Does the shrimp stay firm?

It is really popular to sell frozen cooked shrimp in this area.  I can't stand the texture, so I really have to shop for uncooked shrimp.
