The Wheel Drive-In in Sedalia MO

There was an article in The Kansas City Star newspaper reporting that
The Wheel in Sedalia MO would soon close due to widening of intersection that it sits on.

Although this has been mentioned in several other threads here on Roadfood, this is a good reminder. I believe it is supposed to shut their doors over Labor Day weekend, so anyone who wants to eat there before they close, needs to hurry.

I made my trip back in the Spring. Thoroughly enjoyed my guberburger and the atmosphere of this great little place.

Made my final visit in May.

Has anyone heard if it will officially close on September 3rd, 2007? It opened its doors in 1947....60 years. WOW.

They said Labor Day would be the last day, when I was there 4 months ago.

I do believe today was their last day. When I was there in the Spring, they already had t-shirts made up with the closing date on it.

I'm flipping through this book I bought this morning called Hamburger America by George Motz. They have something interesting to say about The Wheel Inn. According to this book, a longtime employee named Judy Clark saved the guberburger by moving the business around the corner to a defunct video store.

This is the first I have heard about this. Anyone know more about this potential great news?

I will be back in Kansas City over July 4th weekend. Hopefully, I will have time to run down to Sedalia to check the place out. You gotta love those guberburgers!
