The Wintergreen Test Do wintergreen Life Savers create sparks in the dark? Necco wintergreen wafers also have this reputation, is it a true phenomenon or urban legend? NPR investigated the matter in 1979 and came to some conclusions. Here is the link to their wintergreen test. http://www.npr.org/about/specials/sstamberg/wintergreen.html

Well, now I have to turn off the lights and bite my lifesaver although if observed, I might get kicked out of the house. At least I know a way to create light in the dark. Seriously, that is a interesting thing to read about. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I really enjoy most of Terry Gross' broadcasts.

They spark. I remember standing in a closet with my sister chewing those things and watching each other's mouths. Yeah, we were normal kids.

Yup, lifesavers spark in the dark, and so does my dogs fur when I pet him in bed. Crackle crackle spark.
