Most overblown??? "Energy" Drinks mixed with booze!
Energy "uppers" with alcohol "downers" = one confused, schizophrenic drinker!
The only exception to this is the Irish Coffee at The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco. In San Francisco, "Schizo" is a normal state of mind!

The menu at the Buena Vista is nothing to sneeze at either, especially the Breakfasts

Most overblown has to be all the different flavors of martinis.  I do mix it up sometimes when it comes to a martini - sometimes on the rocks, sometimes straight up.  But it's always gin and always very dry.  My favorite was when I asked for a very dry martini and the bartender just took the bottle of vermouth and showed it to the shaker and put it back.

You can count me in with the group that is annoyed that anything served in a martini glass is now known as a "martini."

I'm getting over it, though.  That horse has already left the barn.

I used to bartend part-time when I was young, and still like to look at what is happening in the cocktail world.  I was looking at a list of martinis somewhere, and was surprised to find things like a Manhattan listed.
Maybe there's some hope for generation X after all!

Over blown in size or reputation? How about this 3 gallon Pat O'Brien's Hurricane being consumed at a table next to us in New Orlean's French Quarter.

[looks over at souvenir Hurricane glass from Pat O'Brien's on windowsill]

I wonder whether they require a minimum number of people at a table to allow you to order that thing!

I have no idea what this one cost. We had the regular size version and I thought the price was reasonable as long as you returned your glass to the bar and got your refund. If save your glass what would you do with it? My wife saved her Weeki Wachee mermaid coke souvenir plastic container on this trip.

I don't recall a minimum number of people on the drink list. I don't think they would care as I suspect a lot of people leave some since I am sure people do it for the novelty with no expectations of finishing. These four people looked a bit giddy and they weren't half done. They don't cheat on the drinks. You just don't realize how much you're drinking. I could feel it from just the regular glass.

I have always been a fan of Canadian.  Bushie came to visit me a few years ago and we took a ride to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Cosby, TN which is the moonshine capital of the USA.  I had some Canadian which we imbibed and mixed it with some apple cider unpasterized that I bought from my friend, Bill Kilpatrick which owns the Apple Barn.  We could not stop at one and had another and then perhaps another.  As I recall, we retired to my dock and I do not recall much after that. .  I call it over blown because after two or three or maybe more. I was blown over.  I think Bushie was also but it gets a bit fuzzy after that.

The concoction was of course, Bushies recipe which happened to be a bit strong

Put me down for a Mojito, never could figure out the appeal, and years ago a Harvey Wallbanger...
What's your thought?

You have to have a properly prepared mojito in order to appreciate them. The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood is the only place I have had a good one.

On a cruise once, I went to a "talk" on martini's or something else I can't remember (the only reason i went was for the free samples) and the bartender giving the presentation said the secret is to make really bad mojito's early in the shift.  Otherwise, he would be stuck making them the rest of the night and they are a royal pain in the butt to make correctly.  So my guess is that there are a lot of bad ones out there to keep more people from ordering them.

For me the most overblown and over rated drinks are the blended scotchs like theJohnny Walker and that ilk. I'll have a Glenmorangie neat and a La Finca.

Like so many elements in our life today, the beverage realm has become more sub-divided and complex than most of us recall from "the early days"!
Simple example, i recall the only decision I would make in choosing a cola was COKE or PEPSI. Setting aside all the other brands, stay with that basic choice for a moment... now add- diet or regular sweetener or semi-caloric--caffine or no caffine-- Brown or clear (Krystal Pepsi is history now, but it was a choice for several years)-- Glass, returnable or recycle-- or cans. Quantity 6 oz, 8oz, 10 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz, 20,oz, half liter, quart, liter, 1/2 gallon, 2 liter
OK Expand that to other beverages-
Wines
Beers
Distiled Spirits
Coffees
Tea

As with many other realms, the complexity is mind-boggling for many of us.
I want a Cola,
I want a cup of coffee- sweet and light
I want Sweetened Iced Tea with lots of lemon
etc etc

It's even more complex than that.  Just take diet coke (which I unfortunately have to now with the diabetes).  You can choose from regular diet coke, caffeine free diet coke, diet coke plus (with vitamins added), diet coke with lime, diet coke with cherry, diet coke with splenda, coke zero, coke zero cherry, or coke zero vanilla.

AND

I don't talk about BBQ to anyone these days, for the same complex reasons.

I totally believe this. Last time I inquired at a bar if they could make me one, the bartender rolled his eyes, said yes, and made some comment about me being a jerk for ordering one (not maliciously). I asked why, and he said that he'd make me one, and it'd probably be the best one I'd ever had, and when everyone saw me with it, they'd want one too and he'd be making them all night. He was right on both counts. Best one I'd ever had, and I saw several people later that evening drinking them. I guess he hadn't figured out to make bad ones early enough to turn people off of them.

I just got back from a business trip to Prague for a trade show. One of my friends was sponsoring a happy hour at the show hotel and is a big fan of foo-foo drinks like Mojitos. I guess Mojitos must ride at the top of the list as he wanted Mojitos to be made en masse and using his recipe. He even had a local translate the recipe into Czech for the bartenders.

It was a valiant effort, but I think your cruise ship bartender must have visited Hotel Praja before we got there.
