Anyone who would put catsup on a hamburger would put horseradish on corn flakes and cream cheese on applesauce.

That's a great response! I always wondered why anybody would ruin a perfectly good hamburger by putting ketchup on it.

Cream cheese on applesauce?!?! Or applesauce on cream cheese!! Not a bad idea!! However, I wouldn't put ketchup {catsup} on my hamburger. I voted for none of the above. Just my humble opinion.

I know onions are not a condiment, but... onions compliment food, and can be presented in so many different ways {i.e. raw, sauteed, in a relish form}, that they SHOULD be considered a condiment!! [Yeah, yeah, my argument doesn't hold 'water', since tomatoes can be 'ketchup', and Prez Reagan made ketchup a vegetable. And tomatoes are a fruit!!! Slippery slope~~~argh!!  }

I think this Hoffman character is a troll.. Give me Yellow Mustard (Plochmans), Red Ketchup (Heinz), Somewhat green dill pickles, semi white onions (the more tear jerking the better), Green Lettuce thats not wilting so bad, A cheap generic yellow cheese (AKA American), a semi tastless tomato slice or two and a decent slathering of mayo! I'm good to go! OH, and toss this all in a Kaiser Bun...

A little off here, but i was at a big grocery the other day and they had about 10 brands of ketchup. I looked closely, not one was spelled "catsup". Where can i find this stuff? As far as the poll, i thought it was kinda vague. I never put just one condiment on a burger.

C'mon Hoffman!! It all depends on what we grew up eating and what we're used to eating. I love ketchup on burgers, but am trying new things like HP Sauce or spicy mustard. I grew up eating baked spaghetti with a tomato mixture on top, cheddar cheese, and cinnamon sugar on top and its a family tradition. I'll try almost anything on anything at least once. I've found new foods I never thought I'd love. quote:Originally posted by Michael Hoffman Anyone who would put catsup on a hamburger would put horseradish on corn flakes and cream cheese on applesauce.

Hello All, Hmmmm, Jimeats prefers a 50/50 blend with mustard....could he be the twin or Parseses? Make you wonder. I am a hater of catsup, but a lover of fresh tomatoes. And I prefer mayo and mustard. Wish we could have made multi-choices in the poll. Take Care, Fieldthistle

I agree with you on catsup but horseradish, corn flakes, cream cheese and applesauce were all listed as ingredients people put in their chili on the chili recipe thread and they raved about how it tasted so I'm sure they all go well together and would make great condiments for a hamburger.

I am bothered by this poll. The choice of 'None of the above' should and could be "A combination of two or more'. Ketchup and mayonnaise works as a basic building block for a great burger. Cheese (I like Swiss), bacon, onion and lettuce can find their rightful place as included ingredients as long as the bun is sturdy enough to hold all of this without collapsing. I have a variety of mustards, but oddly do they make an appearance on my burger. At the restaurant where I work we have a good grilled burger. It is there that I will take some 1000 Island dressing and go the 'secret sauce' route as made famous at Jack in the Box. Call me a heathen. I suspect Mr. Hoffman considers his New Haven roots when he made his statement. I imagine he is using Louis Lunchbox as a reference. If memory serves me correctly, mustard isn't allowed either. mark

Ketchup on hamburgers & mustard on hot dogs - that's the American way. Hoffman is obviously deluded.
