The pig's head would be a great door prize.

And what about those of us that already have one?

You get the other end.

I can't believe you set yourself up for that.

Or that I'm the first person to say it.

CK,
Those are both Saturdays--nights I usually work at Burt's.  Not sure I'll be able to take the time off, but if you're going to be around either the Friday before or the Sunday after, I can probably make myself available.  Also, If I do take off the time on the weekend of the 24th, we're thinking about making the run down south for the Roadfood New Orleans Festival.

Or, you can come in for dinner at Burt's.  Better make your plans early though.  We're about to be featured in another television appearance; this time a local dining show that has been known to send attendance through the roof.  Getting in is actually pretty simple if you plan ahead.  Check out "Burt's Place" on the Google thingy and read all about it.  If you have any questions, you can PM me and I'll guide you through the process.

BTW, if anyone has any questions about Burt's, please PM me or start a fresh thread.  Let's leave this one to focus on our trip to Sun Wah BBQ.

Thanks,
Buddy

I realized after I posted that you would prolly be at Burt's which is a good thing. My plans here are still in flux, my aunt & uncle aren't sure which week they are heading back from the south, and i was trying to tie in some geneaology with my son's spring break trip (he is a strange kid, when asked if he wanted to go south for spring break, he replied "No can we go to Elkhart instead, he fell in love with the hotel pool there and ever since that is the only place he wants to go)  and the Wakarusa dime store is close by (gotta have those JUMBO jelly beans)

Ok im rambling and hogging the thread i will pm you when i know more.

Does the menu have to be finalized in advance?  How many servings are there in a whole pig?  Also, do they serve the pig with the steamed buns that usually come with duck?

(Sorry if this posts twice- my internet's being wonky!)

Alyce, only the duck and pig need to be ordered ahead of time.  When I have the head count, I'll ask their advice about how many of each to order, taking into consideration we'll ordering lots of other food, too.

We don't have to order any of the other food ahead of time, but maybe we should talk about what our "must haves" are so we can order a little more quickly when we get there.  It doesn't have to be set in stone- there's other dishes they offer regularly posted on signs near the front door that I didn't get a picture of, plus specials that change daily.

So are we going to order and eat family style, and just split the bill evenly?  Or is everyone on his or her own?

Ann, if Jim's not there it's not necessarily a bad thing.  I find it quite convenient to give his name when breaking dishes, starting fights, etc.

So are we going to order and eat family style, and just split the bill evenly?  Or is everyone on his or her own?

Good question.

Speaking for myself, I always assumed it would be family style with a split bill.  Since both the pig and the duck, which are our main reasons for going to Sun Wah, are both served communally, it seemed to make sense to handle the bill accordingly.  In abe's initial post, she provided a rundown of what they ordered on their first visit.  It was more than enough for four people with a per head price of $20 including tax and tip.

If we can hit that number with our group, then an evenly split bill is okay with me.  Anyone else have any thoughts as to how the bill should be handled?

I'm perfectly happy with a straight up split, especially if I can just throw 3 $20s on the table and be done with it.  For beverages I'm thinking pitchers of water and soda might be the way to go, with a separate check for those who want beer or wine and they can work it out amongst themselves.

I'm cool with an even split, but alcohol on a separate bill if necessary.

I ain't sayin' one way or the other which team is better, but didn't we postpone this dinner so as not to interfere with the unstoppable Super Bowl run the Packers were on?

Remind me, how'd that turn out?

And I thought this was a 'family forum'...LOL!  But seriously, can we order the steamed buns (like in dim sum but without the filling), plum sauce and scallions?  The way Peking Duck is usually served?
I'm fine with splitting the check equally.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll give you more, Alyce.

If you want some quality information about the place, here's the thread from LTH Fourm, the local foodie site.  It goes back 7 years and it's 21 pages long, but it's some quality reading if you have the time!
ETA: Shoot, this is abe, at Buddy's house- forgot the computer would be logged into his account!

I didn't see any mention of a private room on the Sun Wah website so I take it we'll be at a long table in the dining room?  I don't know if Sunday lunch is a typically busy time for them but I'm hoping we won't be on the clock like the fish fry at Beer Belly's.

Also, am I going to need a horse-choking wad of quarters for street parking?
