RE: The world's BEST soup ?

In 1989 there was a huge ice storm in this part of Mississippi. At the time we were living out in the country from Vicksburg. We were without power for a week.During that time we ate what canned food we had warmed in the fireplace, where we also huddled to stay warm. After 5 days, the roads were cleared enough to go to Vicksburg. There we went to New Orleans Cafe (now The Biscuit Club) where I had a big steaming bowl of oyster and artichoke soup. It was THE BEST. Was it the soup or the circumstance? Who knows, but it was the best soup I have ever eaten.

Over the weekend I had a cup of "rosemarina" at theAriston Cafe. It's made with orzo and chicken stock and I really liked it. Brad

In October, the day the stock market went way down, 499 stocks in the S&P 500 went down, the only one that went up was Campbell's soup.

I've mentioned this on another thread, but it definitely belongs on here. My favorite soup is the creamy chicken n' dumpling at a place here in Lansing called Popolano's ( on Torrence just south of I-80. ) It's the one soup there that's available every day, and it is delicious. I always order it whenever I go there for their wonderful fried chicken ( Chicagoland's best, IMHO. ) Just make sure you stay clear of their spaghetti dinner, though...really bad news. I do have to admit that I have a favorite canned soup, Campbell's Bean with Bacon ( Mom fed this one to me a lot. ) I've tried a couple of Progresso's soups, and I'm amazed by how bland and flavorless they are; I won't be trying anymore of those.

If prepared carefully and properly, nothing is better than a bowl of french onion soup. This of course, is just my opinion.

Everything descibed in this thread looks delicious to me. However, last night when I came in from doing some chores outside in the cold damp weather (snow flurries) I was chilled through and through. A large cup of steaming Campbells Tomato Soup was the perfect "warm me up" at that time. Sometimes "simple" is good !

I love a good chicken noodle soup, and a favorite of mine is served at the New Archview restaurant in Chicago, on Archer Ave. west ( I think ) of Damen Avenue. They don't have it every day, but I remember it popping up pretty frequently; maybe two or three days a week.

The days(and nights) we were without power, we kept a large stock pot simmering on one of the gas stoves burners. In it was a bunch of beef marrow bones and chopped up pot roast and one ribeye steak, Bullion Cubes, and several large onions (cut up), some other seasonings and a couple of gallons of water. We added some corn and other veggies later. Not only did it make the place smell good, but having a cup of "Beefy-Onion Soup' available whenever we felt the need for a warm-up was a pretty good thing ! When it started to run low we tossed in some more meat and onion...and even a bit of gravy-mix. All in all it was a real nice thing to have around!

We had a blizzard several years ago and we were without power for several days. At that time i did not have a gas fireplace but I made stew and meatloaf on the burning logs. It really tasted good with the house so cold. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Here is a vote for the French Onion Soup at the Hale Koa Hotel on the beach in Waikiki..... It is always homemade - - always a bit different, but always delicious with its slice of french bread and the toasty melted cheese on top...... A crock of soup - - a trip to the salad bar and their crusty dinner rolls can keep a body happy for a long time......

Corn Soup and Cow Heel Soup found in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago around the savannah. Good eats. Eat the Corn Soup first. It's really good, but once all the grease and fat in the Cow Heel coat your mouth and tongue you won't be able to taste the Corn Soup anymore. Follow this protocol and you'll be well rewarded.

correctly prepared french onion is my first choice, followed by correctly prepared new england clam chowder, and correctly prepared cream-of roasted red pepper with a dab of sour cream.... :)
