The world's BEST soup ?

it could be the cream of artichoke soup , served at duarte's , in pescadero , ca . ; then again , it could be the mustard soup , made at The Grotehaus Cafe, in emmen , the netherlands ; of course there is always the posole at matilda's in espanola , nm . but WAIT , what about the onion soup at the martin hotel in winnemuca ??? i guess i might as well mention my mother's crab stew ...

Okay, you said "World's Best" so I would have to say it is from the chain restaurant in the United Arab Emirates (I was at the one in Dubai) called Golden Fork. They have one heck of a diverse selection of food but the best food I ever (yes EVER) had was their bouillabaisse. I had never heard of this before, they have a picture menu and this picture looked good so I pointed and I received. Thick and super creamy with two crab legs sticking straight out of the center. It was unlike any other bouillabaisse I have ever eaten. I think it may have been because in addition to the saffron, there was some cheese which almost gave this a "mac & cheese" consistency. It only cost $6.00 for a huge meal sized portion. The only bouillabaisse I have tried in this country was at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Casino in Vegas and it was miserable and cost quadruple that of what I paid in Dubai. If anyone ever has the option to dine at a Golden Fork, go for it. When you walk in the door you see a chest of fresh seafood, you point to the one piece you want and they cook it for you. In addition to this, the Golden Fork serves Philipino, Chinese, Lebanese, American, British and Russian cuisine in addition to omelettes and the like...all served 24 hours a day. Wish Golden Fork restaurants were over here in the US. As of now, they are a 15 hour flight away from Newark

    Regards,
    Chris

Come to think of it, I made a great soup last week using garlic, onions, potatoes, rapini (broccoli rabe), chicken stock and ditalini. It was good, and good for me.

I think it'd be the she-crab soup I ate at a number of different places in the Outer Banks area in NC. I recall it being quite good at Kelly's, specifically.

    1. The crab bisque at Jerry's Seafood Restaurant in Lanham, MD (just outside of Washington, D.C.) - fabulous.

    2. Pho from any authentic Vietnamese soup kitchen - outstanding.

    3. The shrimp dumpling soup (either with or without noodles) at Full Kee in DC - superb.

The soup nazi would be proud to serve any of these.

The only one I've ever been to was just north of Santa Barbara. I forget the name of the town.

Iguana Soup in Curacao, its rich, creamy, and comes with the Iguana's tail (okay maybe not the tail, but the meat tastes better then chicken!).

My mom's homemade crab soup!! I make a good one but it is still just a pale imitation of her's. It was a meal in a bowl.

Two places, maybe three. The black bean soup at the Union Square Cafe in NYC and the clam chowder at the Maine Diner. The third, I will say modestly is my own split pea soup. Cheers to all.

OK....I've thought about this for a while now. This was a really, really difficult question. I just love soup so much. It was hard to pick my favorite. But I think I have it narrowed down. Really really good homemade french onion soup is right up there. Ribollita, Tuscan bread soup, which I had in Italy is a close second. But my favorite I think was a gorgeous chickpea soup...it had a salt cod cake in the middle and was drizzled with olive oil. It was a treat in taste and texture. It gets my vote for the world's best soup.

    Great topic!

The best soup used to be the Chicken Corn Soup at Zinn's Diner near Ephrata, PA, but now Lapp's Restaurant in Lancaster PA makes a mean version of that. Of course, mine is better still, but I'm far too humble.

I've been thinking about this question for 3 days now and still can't answer it because soup is one of my favorite foods, both to eat and to cook. One of my favorite ways to entertain in the winter is to make 3 or 4 pots of soup, some good breads and a couple of salads and invite everyone to dig in.

ok--that's a tough one for me.. can soup would have to be traditional chicken and noodle (campbells of course) but out.... pepper pot at alley oops in elkhart indiana;french onion soup at a place near where i went to school- lawrenceville nj and-- any new england clam chowder in rhode island!!
otherwise i don't really have a favorite .. but those would have to be at the top of the list....

For soups made in private homes, I will not be modest. I will say that I made the very best Russian borsch and sauerkraut soup that one could wish for.............my lentil stew is wonderful, too.

My very favorite restaurant soups are the Lobster bisque at The Prime Rib here in Baltimore and a wonderful mussel soup that I had in France in a tiny restaurant outside of Paris. Wish I knew the name of the restaurant and also wish I had the recipe. By the way, does anyone out there have a really good recipe for mussel soup?
